My review of the novel 'Strange Music' by Alan Dean Foster
The novel "Strange Music" by Alan Dean Foster was published for the first time in 2017. It's part of the Pip & Flinx series.
Flinx has been living with his girlfriend Clarity and obviously with Pip on the planet Cachalot for more than a year now when he receives the unexpected visit of Sylzenzuzex, a Thranx member of the United Church. This is not a courtesy visit because the Thranx explains that his help is needed for a very special mission on a backward planet that's not part of the Commonwealth.
A problem emerged on the planet Largess, which has still limited relations with the Commonwealth although it may join it in the future. For the time being, advanced technologies are prohibited on Largess, but the presence of a human being who imported them has been reported. Officially, the Commonwealth can't send anyone to capture the human but Flinx is a wanted man and the request for intervention comes from the United Church. The mission turns out to be really complex because the natives use a sung language and unexpected events might endanger it.

Il romanzo "Musica aliena" ("Strange Music") di Alan Dean Foster è stato pubblicato per la prima volta nel 2017. Fa parte del ciclo di Pip e Flinx. In Italia è stato pubblicato da Mondadori nel n. 1674 di "Urania" nella traduzione di Enzo Verrengia.
Flinx vive assieme alla sua compagna Clarity e ovviamente assieme a Pip sul pianeta Cachalot da ormai più di un anno quando riceve l'inaspettata visita di Sylzenzuzex, una Thranx membro della Chiesa Unita. Non si tratta di una visita di cortesia perché la Thranx gli spiega che c'è bisogno del suo aiuto per una missione davvero speciale su un pianeta arretrato che non fa parte del Commonwealth.
Un problema è emerso sul pianeta Largess, che ha rapporti ancora limitati con il Commonwealth anche se in futuro potrebbe unirsi ad esso. Per il momento le tecnologie avanzate sono proibite su Largess ma è stata segnalata la presenza di un umano che le ha importate. Ufficialmente, il Commonwealth non può inviare nessuno per catturare l'umano ma Flinx è un ricercato e la richiesta di intervento arriva dalla Chiesa Unita. La missione si rivela davvero complessa perché i nativi usano una lingua cantata e gli imprevisti rischiano di metterla in pericolo.
