You know I need to read the commonwealth saga/void trilogy/etc again because tbh the moral of the story is really that immortality reveals us as a species completely made up of petty dramatic assholes and I don’t think I appreciated that enough the first time round

The Primes' attack has caused a crisis in the InterSolar Commonwealth. The planets devastated by the aliens are the most obvious problem, but there are long-term consequences to be assessed. The priority is to stop further invasions of planets colonized by humans, but it's necessary to find a way to defeat them as well.

While Ozzie Isaac continues his quest for answers, someone in the Commonwealth starts believing that there may be something real behind the story of the Starflyer. The war seems to have a chance to end only with the genocide of one of the two species involved.

Peter F. Hamilton beat me to it with his Commonwealth Saga trilogy.

A tangential tidbit: I learnt of Peter F. Hamilton upon reading the transcript of the Security Now! podcast episode 387. In that episode, both Mr. Gibson and Mr. LaPorte was practically gushing about Hamilton’s novels... which means I have to get them and read them...
