Pic credit: Sam Watts A HUMPBACK whale and her calf put on a spectacular show off North Head on Sunday. Freshwater’s Sam Watts was among those fortunate enough to capture the whales frolicking and breaching, about 100m off the headland. “They were there for about 45 minutes,” Mr Watts said. “You could hear them slapping the water with their tails. The mum did it a couple of times but it was the baby doing most of it.” The majestic mammals were migrating south at the time they were spotted. Whales annually migrate south to Antarctica, between August and November, to feed. This month, Manly’s Ryan Spring and girlfriend Emma White used a drone to capture the moment a group of six humpback whales passed through — appropriately — Whale Beach. Mr Spring said: “I’ve seen them in ones or twos, but not as many as that before.”#northantartica not sure if this is on their way #migrating in or passing by #surf #au
