In Ivalice, many intelligent races live side by side. They’re broadly split into Humes (what we’d call humans) and the other races, often grouped as demi-humans. Each race has its own distinct physical traits and cultural identity.
Humes
Found across all of Ivalice, Humes are the most numerous race, making up roughly 40% of the population.
They are essentially human, with an average lifespan of around 60 years--relatively short compared to other races. Individually, they aren’t especially remarkable in strength or intellect. However, their high birth rate and strong curiosity have driven them to spread far and wide. In adapting to different environments and sometimes reshaping them, they’ve steadily expanded their reach.
Humes tend to be ambitious, with a strong drive for power and control. This ambition has led them to unite settlements and form nations. Their deep involvement in politics and economics has also made them the dominant presence in ruling classes across many regions.
Within Hume society, hierarchy plays an important role. Those of higher status often bear three names: a given name, a middle name, and a family name.
