A/N: THIS SERIES IS CURRENTLY ON HIATUS, BEING RE-WRITTEN. What can I say? Um... I needed to rewrite everything to get back into the flow of this series that I love so much. Most things will remain the same, I just wanted to put more detail into it all. I want to love what I’m writing, and my OCD will not allow me to continue until I fix a few things. So, um, if y’all could just... hang in there. I’ll be back in this world real soon. Love you all!
“Milady a word?” Cole said from the back of the group. Julie slowed her horse to walk beside him, and Lisa maintained her distance.
“Yes?” She looked at him, sleep was getting to her finally, it had been a long day and she had not slept well the night before.
“We are away from your father now, please tell me what is going on,” Cole said taking on the air of her confidant.
“Dean and Sam found me last night,” Julie said lowly. If Cole had been walking he might have tripped over his feet. He stared at her.
“You got caught?” He confirmed. Julie nodded. “How much did they see? Can they prove it was you? You know I would take the noose for you if it came to it.” He rambled before Julie silenced him with a hand.
“I will never feel the tightness of a noose. Not even the Count’s daughter would be treated so well if accused of hunting.” Julie sighed.
“Then we take care of them?” Cole said firmly. It was Julie’s turn to stare at him. She knew that Cole had killed people before when he had been away at war, but the thought that he was willing to kill innocent people to protect her was terrifying to her.
“No, you don’t understand.” She started. Lisa screamed ahead of them drawing them out of their conversation and they saw the group of four vampires that were attacking their group.
“Get Lisa!” Julie directed to Cole. He pulled his sword and urged his horse to a gallop heading to the group. Sam and Dean turned from their lead and also pulled weapons charging the group. Julie took a moment to take in their surrounding. They were still on the open road, which struck her as unusual. She pulled her bow and an arrow from her quiver notching it.
She couldn’t get a clear shot with the commotion of vampires that were in the center of the chaos, but Julie sighed in relief when Lisa came riding toward her and away from the carnage.
“Milady, we should hide.” Lisa urged. Julie knew it was the proper lady-like thing to do in her position, but she also knew that the fight was almost over. The ambush had been a failure.
“Wait,” She instructed her maid. One of the vampires took off running toward the woods where they had come from and Julie loosed her arrow.
“Oh, you got him,” Dean said leaning over the side of the horse to get a good view of the stake that was protruding from the vampire’s chest. Then he lifted the monster and cleaved it’s head off. Lisa gagged and looked away from the grisly scene, and Julie placed a comforting hand on her shoulder.
“Is anyone hurt?” Dean asked the other two men as the group rejoined.
“No.” Cole and Sam echoed each other.
“What were they doing here?” Julie asked, still bothered by the situation.
“It was just a standard raiding party,” Dean said taking stock of the dismembered parts of their enemies.
“A raiding party that was waiting for us?” she asked looking to Cole, who signaled for her to drop the line of thought.
“We should ride close together,” Sam said, taking in the sheet-white pallor of Lisa.
“I agree, we should also plan to rest soon,” Julie suggested.
“I know a place that’s not too far from here,” Dean looked around as if gaging his location. “It has protection and freshwater.”
“Very well, let’s see if we can get there before the sun comes up then. And perhaps we should get off the road?” Julie planted the idea.
“We are very exposed here, in the woods would give us some advantage.” Cole agreed. Dean led the group into the woods, and though the travel was slower due to the underbrush, they all felt safer.
“We are here,” Dean muttered some time later. Julie realized she had started to doze on the horse, and the sun was starting to come up. Cole had tied a lead line between his horse and Julie and Lisa’s to make sure they didn’t wander. The lady’s maid was snoring softly as they approached a small hollow.
