I still really love this scene from 2.16 for a number of reasons:

1. It takes place fairly soon after Fitzsimmons’ fight about Skye’s condition and yet they present as a completely united front against “the other SHIELD”. Gonzales keeps trying to engage Fitz only to have Jemma run interference which is a clever way to shift the power dynamic in their conversation. Fitz only speaks twice and both times it’s in response to something Bobbi says, not Gonzalez. I get the impression that Jemma does this partly because she is protective of Fitz and partly because Fitz is still recovering. When put on the spot, he still sometimes struggles to find the right words and so in this scene, Jemma is acting as a steady voice for Fitz until he feels comfortable enough to chime in.

2. Gonzales’ attempts at flattery remind the audience that Fitzsimmons have a reputation within SHIELD, even among high ranking officers. There’s a reason Coulson picked them out of everyone in SHIELD to join his team.

3. Bobbi trying to make a case for the Bus Kids before and after they approach Fitzsimmons makes me love her even more. It helps develop her character further in showing that while she is keen to follow orders, she won’t blindly do so. It’s clear that Coulson’s team have had an impact on her and that while she might not fully trust Coulson, she does trust Jemma, Fitz, and Skye to a certain degree or at least trusts that their intentions within SHIELD are good. 

4. There is a brief moment of classic Fitzsimmonsing at the beginning of the scene which is severely lacking in the rest of season 2. It’s a nice addition that finally makes you feel like things will get back to normal between them.

Some magical things are falling into place right now. I have two people I love falling back into my life. One of which is doing great things for herself and going in I think a great direction. And I couldn't be more impressed or happy for her. She just gets me and challenges me and supports me. I need that and I love her. And the other has grown up so much and I am terrified but also excited to know I can lean on him and find that he is there. I can honestly say I never thought we'd find each other again. Especially in such an intimate way. I know that there are things in life that simply won't hold but I feel really good about this right now. No matter what happens I'm glad for right now. Also I find that my future is slowly making a shape that I am not only comfortably uncomfortable with but also very excited about. I don't remember a time I've felt this content and happy. And I owe a lot of it two myself which feels pretty fucking good. (Also my friends because they rock and I needed them) (shout out to my old roomie because no matter what happens she's a dream and a really amazing human and who knows where I'd be with out her?
