I know Thomas is a ghost bus and doesn't need gas, but can he be damaged? With all the potholes and the previous fricking shooting and all. Is he okay? Is he tired? Thomas is best bus and I will lovingly pat the dash, even if he doesn't know. I'm heading up the Thomas appreciation club and you can't stop me. -midnightfairy

((Well, first of all, I'd less say Thomas is a ghost van and more that Thomas is haunting a van like a ghost might haunt a house. Like, while Thomas is tethered to the van, he is his own separate being and once he figures it out, he could separate himself from the van in time. If he did this, that old van would basically just fall apart at the seams. It is an old van. It should not work anymore. Which is why you fairies are able to just gut the entire engine to make a nightclub.

Thomas's ghostly energy is what is keeping it together. Much like in movies about ghosts, ghosts can manipulate the places that they haunt. So, like, a bunch of lights can come on even though the power was cut years ago. Sometimes, you tear apart something or clean something up only for it to return to it's state before. Ect, ect.

Thomas both kind of has a shield that extends a couple of inches from the outside of the van (see bullet deflection earlier) and can repair damage that happens to the van.

Thomas does not get tired from a lot of things he does with the van. Driving takes basically 0 energy for him because that's his function pretty much as a ghost. However, trying to do something not with the van, like making things hover that aren't part of the van or writing saps a lot of energy out of him. If the van were to be damaged, like if someone took a knife to the upholstery or somehow managed to get around the shield to pop a tire, fixing it would also take a bit of energy, but he could heal it.))

Thomas is unfortunately, even less likely to sense the fairies, so he cannot feel the pat. However, I'm sure he would appreciate it. :D

Different colored eyes on the badge usually indicate if they have any special abilities. The OSM runs experiments on their members to help them get to be level with mythical creatures.

Gorgon Hollow was a population of around 3,000 before the outbreak. That population was almost completely human. It is in a region that tended to be less accepting of (”undesirable”) non-humans and the town itself had been made specifically about 50 years ago to get away from non-humans. No vampires lived in the town.

"Crossovers with mortals and fae have birthed creaturs like dragons" wow, two different universes spawned very similar reasons for how dragons exist: this is ALMOST how it happens in my own storyverse (biggest difference is that in my version dragons need more nonmortals than just fae). Out of curiosity, how many types of dragon exist in this universe? (resisting the urge to count my own, because there are a LOT of factors that could be used for classification 😅)

That's very cool! There are a few answers to your question.

The first is they're all considered the same subspecies because being a dragon refers to having a certain type of fae blood mixed with a certain type of mortal blood. So, in that way there is only one "kind." If dragons mixed with a different types of mortal or fae, they would no longer be considered dragons in this universe.

The second is you might mean lineage. There are only a handful or two of the type of fae needed to make dragons that have crossed over, and most know who their ancestor is. Though sometimes they breed between lineages, most end up breeding with other mortals.

The third is how many clans which is more complicated. Clans don't interbreed as they're considered large extended families, but might not all be of the same lineage. Likewise two may have the same lineage, but belong to different clans. There are probably hundreds of clans, but membership can change around based on different things.

Fourth, I am making this up as I go, so I'm not going to give you any clear-cut number. Don't want to say 3 and then need a 4th somewhere down the line. XD

A world-building question I’m wondering. Are we, the fairy askers, the same type of fairy as Patton’s heritage? Or like a subtype, or something more different?

You are probably not the same type of fairies, no, but you are from the same plane of existence. There are multiple planes of existence in this verse that overlap each other. The one the story takes place on is the mortal plane which, if there hadn't been some inter-plane crossovers, would consist purely of mortals, though some mortals that live longer lifespans than humans and some that live shorter. So, humans, werewolves, sorta vampires, but it's complicated, types of gnomes, and a few others.

Then, there is the fae plane which is the home to a lot of immortal beings including unicorns and normal fae from legends, as well as thr type you are. Typically these planes don't interact, but certain powerful fae have managed to make it into the mortal planes. This can result in hybrid children through normal means or more mythical. Crossovers with mortals and fae have birthed creaturs like dragons. It's also easy to view the mortal plane from the fae plan and to slightly influence events there (see fairy askers). Patton's ancestor was probably a fae that crossed over and it probably was a different type than you guys since it interbred with a human.

There are other planes too, like the plane of the dead which is where ghosts hang around when they aren't physically manifesting. (It's much closer to the mortal plane than the fae one.) There are actually other things in the plane of death that are not ghosts of mortals.

Mythical Creatures-Unicorns

The unicorn is a creature of the fae plane. Though they look like horses, it would be a mistake to claim they were the horses of the fae. While it is true that sometimes you will find a fae riding one, they are not trained animals. Unicorns are very powerful creatures and can range anywhere from extremely benevolent to absolutely malicious depending on the being they are interacting with and their own general temperament.

Much like the fae, they are prone to giving gifts and these gifts can come in the form of false gifts, neutral gifts, and true gifts. Unlike fae, these gifts are often not given on a whim. Unicorns tend to chose specific people that they favor or dislike and proceed to pour appropriate gifts on them.

Unicorns are rarely seen on the mortal plane and they rarely chose to favor creatures other than the fae, though they have been known to do so in the past.

The Favored

Unicorns typically choose one to three Favored across their very long lifespans. Typically these are fae, but they have been known to choose other sentient beings. The Favored are protected and given true gifts by the unicorns. They have a special connection with their Favored that is rarely if ever broken.

3 Type of Unicorn Gifts

False Gifts (Or Curses)

False gifts are given to those who have displeased a unicorn or one of their favored. These gifts have severe impacts on the recipients lives. They are often fatal.

The Gift of Fire Touch

Neutral Gifts (Often Just Called Gifts)

These gifts tend to be given more on a whim or if a being goes looking for a gift from a unicorn they do not wish to give. They often appear good, but have negative consequences. Most are not fatal and are eventually revoked. Similar to wishes a genie may cast, though far more powerful.

True Gifts

True gifts are given almost exclusively to the unicorn’s favored or to repay a debt. Though, the favored are the only ones that get the benefit of repeated gifts. These gifts are true benefits to the recipient and are intended to make them happy based on their wants and needs.
