Mini-review:
Full disclosure: I'm not a huge fan of BL dramas. They rarely work for me tbh, for a wide variety of reasons that I won't go into right now. From time to time I fall for people's raves about one of these shows, only to end up disappointed. And, while this one is better than average, it didn't impress me that much anyway. There's clearly a strong emotional core at the center of the story, but the episodes are too short and everything feels rushed. The thing that saves it is Lee Tae Vin's performance and his fantastic chemistry with Cha Joo Wan; it's thanks to them that the last two episodes hit a lot better than what comes before. But yeah, it's clear that BLs in general just aren't my thing.

화차 (English title: Helpless, 2012) = ★★★★/5.
A very poignant and thoughtful thriller. There was quite a bit of product placement in this film, though not to an extent where it's annoying.
Helpless
Just finished watching the Korean movie Helpless/화차 and it was a pretty good watch. It got me yelling at my screen a couple of times. I'd give it an 8/10, no holes in the story line or at least not that I've noticed and they were pretty precise and detailed in answering the questions that came up. The story line isn't really something I haven't seen before and the ending was pretty obvious. But then again I have seen the trailer like how many times during the Korean Film Festival a few months back so that might have had an affect on me. The trailer was great by the way. I loved the plot and cinematography and how the director portrayed the story. It was very well done and as mentioned above very detailed and precise. I don't want to spoil it and give too much details but it's very straightforward and not confusing at all--well at least not for me--even though it tends to mix the past and the present in the same frame, but that's what I loved about it. By the story line and cinematography the director had to have been influenced by Hitchcock. Those POV shots Hitchcock is known for was definitely there. I wondered about this one scene but I guess they probably left it out for a reason, it would have been too gory for Korea. Overall, it did really well in Korea and to my knowledge it was picked up by Hollywood. So...they're going to remake it in America...we'll see how that goes. They said that they would change it up a bit due to cultural differences but I find most American remakes to be a horrible adaptation of the original because they pretty much change like 80% of the story line totally ruining the meaning of the whole movie but I guess we'll see. I can totally see Hollywood either drastically changing the ending to the point where it's a totally different ending or keeping it exactly the way it is. Hahaa!! Anyway, I definitely recommend it.
Click here for a link to the trailer with English subs and here to stream the whole movie (the audio sucks though because it's really low and the movie is cut into 7 parts but but it's really hard to find for stream elsewhere with English subs unless you download it).
