hi! i'm lookig foward to see Haechi, but the comments about Go Ara acting are underwhelmed. i have never seen her in anything and only heard about in ms hammurabi which she was very praised (as for what i read). ppl dont seem trust much her in sageuk, so whatever i read about the drama, the comments are not encouraged. since you may have watched more dramas and i really like your sageuks posts what you think? i just hope the creator gives her a deep writer and not waste.
I’ve only seen her in Hwarang so I can’t comment much about her acting as far as sageuks go or in general, as Hwarang was part of a string of extreme youth fusion sageuks that were pretty light on the historical drama aspect. My impression there was that she wasn’t an outstanding actress, but not a bad actress either. She wasn’t particularly well utilized but did fine with what she was given.
The writer of Haechi is a trad sageuk writer (including Dong Yi, about the mother of the main lead of Haechi) and her last 4 dramas have been 50 or more episode sageuks. Of them I’ve only seen Hwajung, which also had a lead actress (Lee Yeon Hee) who many think isn’t a good actress, though I’ve always liked her. While the drama was good but not overly noteworthy in the long run, the writer did do a good job there of writing to the actress’s strengths and creating an excellent female lead character, and not sidelining her or letting her be decentralized in favor of the more famous male figures of that part of history, and I’ve heard generally good things about the writing of women in her other dramas.
This seems to have a younger target audience than her previous dramas, and I think is going to be more in the 20-30 episode range instead of 50 or more, so I’m curious to see how it goes.
Basically, I wish there were more women in it that we knew of at this point, but I’m generally optimistic.
Splendid Politics may be a dead serious drama, but it left several funny memes.
