𝒴ou didn't know how you ended up here.
A moment ago, you had been deep asleep, but now you were laying on soft grass that tickled your neck.
Ah, you remember. You had been on a hiking trip in the forest but got caught in a severe thunder storm and tripped, hitting your head on a rock.
You sat yourself up, drinking in all your surroundings. You couldn't tell if your eyes were blurry or if the atmosphere had a slight softness to it. Little mushroom huts with different coloured tops were scattered around the area and large trees, like 10 times the height and width of the huts, loomed over with leaves that were almost glowing.
You spotted someone sitting on a tree calmy, holding a small silver harp and wearing sandals. His resting abruptly came to a halt when he stopped. He gracefully fell from the tree. Was he walking towards you?
He strummed his harp slowly. But he paused, he tried again and again but the more times he did it the more crazy he looked.
"Why isn't it working...?" He pouted.
"Um, excuse me...sir?" You stood up and asked, "W-where exactly am I...?"
The man moved closer to you, circling around you as if he were analysing something. You noticed the freckles scattered on his face under the sunlight, his eyelashes were a pale brown, and he had oddly pointed ears too. He almost looked as unreal as this forest.
"Um...are you human?" The man abruptly asked.
You scoffed, not knowing if this cosplayer was being for real. "What else would I be?" You crossed your arms.
"Ah...that's it. That's why you're so...odd."
"You're the one to talk about odd!" You huffed. "Aura farming in a tree with a harp of all things."
"Aura...farming? Humans are an odd species."
You didn't know if this guy had truly lost it or was just a very good actor.
"My harp is not working...I can't listen to your song..." He grumbled, looking down at his harp.
"What song?? Okay, sir, I really need to get back home, those 5-minute noodles aren't going to eat themselves. Can you just- please tell me the direction or something?"
"Please keep your voice down, you'll wake up the other elves. It's resting time."
"So why are you awake?" You asked as if you were implying he was even an elf.
"Someone has to protect the garden from outsiders...like yourself."
"Are you genuinely an...elf?"
"Yes? My name is Leehan, I'm guardian of the Raindrop elves garden. I'm a heart listener. A rare type of elf that can hear the emotional song of every creature but oddly enough I can't hear yours."
"...So..how is listening to a- um 'song' helpful?" You ask.
"It helps me analyse peoples personalities, their good and evil, their tune with nature, and their current emotional states." He stated matter of factly, picking up his harp to strum one more time, bringing his ear to your chest.
"Wait a minute- so am I just trapped here?"
You watched Leehan completely ignore you as his elf magic failed for the fourth time, he was starting to get embarrassed, becoming doubtful of his abilities everyone praises him for.
He's become completely curious by you.
"Do...you maybe want to see the garden?" He asked. "Because I say this truthfully, I have no clue about directions to the human areas. So, may as well explore this once-in-a lifetime experience."
Leehan persuaded, knowing he just wants to keep you around to fix his damaged ego and prove his abilities work.
As you guys started walking around, your eyes caught onto a beautiful white horse, with a pale blonde mane, braided into a plait.
"Oh, that's Hera. My horse. Do you wanna get on?" He gestured to the horses flower full straddle. You quickly hopped on, steadying yourself. The horse was extremely soft and smelt like grass.
You trotted around, not realising the village had awoken and Leehan was already explaining the situation to them.
"Alright, fine." King Zico sighed, talking in an ancient language you couldn't understand. "You can keep her around, just make sure she doesn't cause any disturbance with the nature, like littering. I'm only letting you do this because your special Leehan, okay?"
Leehan bowed. "Yes your highness."
You hopped off the horse and saw countless elves watching you with skepticism and curiosity.
Leehan walked to you, harp in hand already ready to strum it again. He did it again, and...nothing. He quickly snapped his head back to the other villagers, making sure they didn't see his failed attempt.
"I'm yet to see when these so called powers of your rare elf prototype actually start working." You mentioned, unbothered. Maybe you were right, he had lost his mind.
"We need to go somewhere, more private..." Leehan gritted, ignoring your comment as he dragged you away from the village to a cave.
"This is the crystal cave. Please try to refrain from touching the crystals with your...sin of human-ness."
You gave him an annoyed look. "Whatever that means..." Your eyes caught onto a big glowing crystal as you made your way inside. All the purple, blue, and light blue crystals started glowing brightly. You were completely amazed.
"So what are you feeling right now?" He asked, trying not to come off as curious.
"Ah, so this is what you ask people when you can't invade their feelings without your powers." You smirk.
"That- I just wanted to know! You seem really amazed by all the crystals 'n all.." He crossed his arms, his ears wiggling.
"Righty oh..." You grin, glancing back to your reflection in the crystals.
You walk out of the cave, feeling lighter than you had in months.
"You can just...sleep on the floor of my hut, okay? I still need you around." He mumbled. You raised an eyebrow. "FOR EXPERIMENTS. EXPERIMENTS ONLY." He spat out quickly, surprised that one small gesture got him so worked up.
You found yourself walking to a particular large tree, blocking out Leehan's rambling.
"Hello..." You heard a voice hum softly. You panicked, glancing at the elf behind you for an explanation.
"Don't worry," Leehan rolled his eyes. "It's the spirit fairies. They like to play around a lot. They've probably already grown a liking to you."
They dropped petals on your head, giggling softly like an echo.
Looks like your going to have to stay in Raindrop garden for a while.
˚˖𓍢ִ໋`🌿:
Four days of failed 'experiments' went by, and you were feeling more and more like you wanted to stay than wanted to leave.
You were sitting on a small brown stool, waiting for the harp torture to end.
"Leehan!" You snapped. "It's been hours! Can't we go outside and explore more nature! I really wanted to see the pond..."
Leehan looked genuinely shocked that you wanted to explore more. "Really...?" He asked, a grin crawling up his face. "Alright. Just wait, one more time. Pleassseee! Pleasy weasy lemon squeezy!" He crouched, hands clasped.
You sighed and nodded. He leaned in close, his eyes squinted, concentrating. Nothing. He leaned closer. Still nothing. At some point, he ended up nose to nose with you.
"WAHHH-? BACK AWAY, HUMAN!" He jumped away, clutching his chest, his ears wiggling.
You just watching him make a scene. "You're the one who did that, I didn't even move...and you forgot your harp." You pointed at the poor silver harp laying on the floor. He stared at the harp, before looking at you.
"It was just a part of the experiment."
"You could just ask how i'm doing instead of...that."
"I-I just like listening! Is that uhh..what do humans call it?"
You sighed, "crime. Is-"
"IS THAT A CRIME?"
You stared at him with an even more deadpan expression, you couldn't believe the audacity of this elf.
He suddenly calmed down, dusting himself off. "Let's go outside then, shall we?" The lune, Leehan opened the door.
The elves were doing their usual activities, tending to the garden, horse riding events, crystal trading, bracelet making, dancing and more.
Flowers were falling from behind you, it wasn't the fairies.
You glanced to Leehan, confused. All he did was shrug. But he knew that it was his fault. He just couldn't help it. He smiled to himself silently.
"Oh..Leehan.." Voices hummed. Leehan glanced up to the trees, gesturing for the fairies to keep quiet. The fairies used their magic to nudge Leehan into you.
You collapsed to the floor, your modern clothes getting dirty. Leehan frowned to himself, trying not to get upset with the fairies. He pulled you up from the ground.
"My apologies..." Leehan mumbled.
Before you could apologies, another fairy came from the bracelet making station.
"Do you need some new clothes? My names Bae. Hello Guardian." She bowed after glancing to Leehan. Damn, this lune was actually respected?
"Thank you, that would be much appreciated, Bae."
"Not a problem!" Bae beamed before walking with you to her mushroom hut.
She shuffled around draws and clothing hangers that were entangled in leaves.
After a few more minutes, Bae gasped.
"This is it. This is the one."
Leehan was waiting impatiently outside, tapping his foot on the grass, but the wait was worth it when you walked out. Your hair was delicately covered with small petals, and your white silk dress reached your ankles. You looked absolutely gorgeous.
"Um...Leehan?" You waved in his face. "Are we going to check out the pond now?"
"No, let's check out the crafting tables." He responded quickly, not making eye contact with you. You wondered if he was okay.
You guys sat at the table, you watched the other elves do their thing. You saw Leehan quickly working away as if bills were due.
He glanced at you almost three times. "Are you going to keep staring at me...?" He finally said.
"What are you making?" You tilted your head.
"Oh nothing, just something of completely no value."
"Oh...okay?" You laugh, confused.
"Elves only craft gifts for people they cherish." He stated, putting the huge flower crown on your head.
"Leehan..." You smiled.
"Don't say my name like that. And don't smile like that either." he coughed awkwardly.
"Are you saying you cherish me?"
"It's no big deal." He shrugged.
"Your ears are wiggling though. You always do that when you're flustered." You tapped his ear. He instantly covered them with his palms.
"Yeah Leehan...you clearly like her.." The fairies hummed.
"Don't you guys have something better to do!?" Leehan looked down, crossing his arms.
The fairies giggles echoed away.
"It's fine if you didn't mean it in that way..." You say to see his reaction.
"NO- Yes I do mean I cherish you." He stuttered.
"Hmmm that's what I thought." You giggle as he pauses, slamming his head onto the table, but his ears were glowing red.
˚˖𓍢ִ໋`🌿:
Night settled over the garden like a velvet blanket, deep blue and shimmering. The trees hummed softly, a lullaby only elves usually hear, but tonight, they seem to be singing for you.
Your elven Heartlistener walked beside you, steps silent, harp in hand, and anytime he glanced your way, the tips of his ears glowed a warm gold he pretends not to notice.
You reached a small clearing where the fireflies gathered into spirals, forming a soft halo of light. He paused, hesitating, then he gestured for you to sit on a mossy log. When you do, he sits beside you, closer than usual. Close enough that your shoulder almost touch.
The forest quiets, he does not. Leehan kept stealing little glances at you, as if trying to memorize the shape of your silhouette against the moon.
"What are you feeling right now?" He asks in a soft voice.
"Calm." You smiled.
A cool breeze drifted through the clearing, and you shivered before you could stop yourself. Instantly, instinctively, he shifted closer, grabbing the cloak he had brought with him and wrapped it around you. His fingers brushed your collarbone as he fastens the clasp.
He froze. You looked up. He was blushing so hard his eyes looked like tiny lanterns.
"I apologise," he stammered. "Elves share warmth. It's a tradition- I mean - not tradition, but- I didn't want you to be cold."
You tugged the cloak tighter around yourself. "Thank you. It's warm."
He exhaled, relieved, and the forest lights brightened as if sharing his breath.
For a moment, neither of you speak. The night is quiet, the air soft, the world holding it's breath around you.
Leehan leaned in, not touching you but close enough that you felt the wamrth radiating from him. He strummed his harp.
"May I... listen?" he asked, voice trembling slightly.
You nodded.
Fireflies swirled around as he closed his eyes, holding your face gently. He heard nothing, but felt everything. When he opened his eyes, they were glowing faintly.
"You can't hear it, can you." You smiled.
"I can't, but being near you...it feels like i'm learning it anyway."
"Maybe that's better."
You both laughed.
His ears glowed again, and this time, he didn't look away.
