I tripped over and remembered I actually have a bunch of drawings saved up for larger posts that never came to fruition so have them while they’re within my brain attention span (alot of this shit dates back to 2021 or even 2020 so thats why its so uggo)
from top to bottom, left to right:
Belarus (chillin)
Iran, Afghanistan (Two greatly contrasting viewpoints)
Yemen, bby Oman (Oman got his ass beat by one of Saudi Arabia’s bros and Yemen got conscripted rip)
Somalia, Djibouti, Ethiopia (this is so ancient please don’t look at it)
Tarquinia/Etruria (No idea how accurate the colors are, but I do remember basing the jewelry after actual artifiacts)
Central African Republic/Centrafique (Centrafrique was meant to be a man originally, and this was one of the first drawings I did to try and redesign her!)
Tanzania, Burundi, Uganda, Rwanda, Kenya, South Sudan (Jfc south sudan is yuge)
Malawi (Still not 100% happy with her design, but I still like this!)
Rwanda, Burundi (A Rwandan tourism twitter account liked this)
India, Afghanistan (Fatality)
I’m getting super into learning about the trade in the Indian Ocean (East Africa, parts of Asia all). I’m American too- here in the US, all we hear about is Atlantic trade, slavery or otherwise. Learning about trade in another Ocean entirely just seems so eye opening. It’s like, another world out there, even if you might not hear about as much…and on that note, do you have any ideas/headcanons on shipping/trading in that region pre-colonization? 🤓🙃
man ur so right the indian ocean trade (as well as the East African Slave trade) are so so underrepresented despite having such a massive impact on so many places!!!!!! Im planning on a bigger post on east africa, the swahili coast, and the indian ocean trade networks but here’s some small stuff i have hehe
Yemen ended up sailing to a lot of places, like SEAsia! he prbly vibed there for a while! His frequent sailing is also part of the reason why he’s so close to the Horn of Africa states ⛵
Oman crashed on Zanzibar’s couch for at least solid decade, but hey he gave her a more equal position the whole empire business in exchange 🪙

A lot of the east african non-Swahili Coast countries have mixed feelings on Oman and the Arab states, and their Swahili city state trade partners: Kenya and Tanzania’s pre-colonization ethnic group parents were such ppl who Were Not Fans
Uganda, Rwanda, and Burundi as Great Lakes nations were generally more removed from all that nonsense and too busy elbowing each other for power
king can you zoom out on that map a bit 👀
sure can pardner
here’s the full map I drew of my east african ocs (ft. democratic republic of the congo and one (1) smug lookin sudan) Their exact details will prbly change later on, but for now im pretty happy w their designs!
I wanna talk about them all in more detail later, so for now, have this short but very informative infographic
THANK U FOR THE APH AFRICA WE ARE BLESSED. . . i wanted to ask you, are the members of the swahili trio related?
wwww thank u!!! I JUST LOVE ME SOME HWS AFRICA THATS ALL,,,,,
The answer is no, the members of the Swahili trio don’t consider each other as relatives! Uganda represents the Buganda kingdom at his core, so he’s closer related to other Great Lakes nations than he is to Kenya and Tanzania. He’s connected to Rwanda through his older brother the Bunyoro kingdom, but she’s far more closely related to Burundi than she is to him. He’s like a cousin to the two?
Kenya represents the Kikuyu at her core, and though some groups are closely related to the Kikuyu, she doesn’t really consider them close family (sometimes for political reasons), and has always seen herself a bit of a outsider among the nearby nation-tans (she’s not really all that broken up about it, she likes feeling unique lol)
Tanzania, unlike Kenya and Uganda, doesn’t have a core ethnic group she represents- she represents all of mainland Tanzania/Tanganyika. For that reason, she sees the ethnic groups of Tanzania as her closest family. She’s especially close to Sukuma and Nyamwezi!
