hxg is using the girls as shields and it's disgusting to me

It’s so frustrating. Hiding behind a bunch of young women and then pushing them from behind… setting every single one of them up to take the brunt of fans’ frustration without letting them speak for themselves abt the situation at all.

If they can do this to Manon then they can do it to every single one of them.

And I MEAN setting them up! Giving Daniela most of Manon’s lines while she’s still getting blamed for her boomer father’s Facebook comments, giving Sophia that canned-ass answer and stopping her from mentioning Manon on stage, making Megan take down her insta story, etc.

They aren’t just negligently allowing the girls to receive hate but are actively making it worse.

Ppl keep trying to say it’s all Geffen and not Hybe but I don’t believe that for a second. Not only am I skeptical about the amount of involvement that Geffen actually has with HxG, but it’s not like Hybe is an antiracist corporation. I’d point my finger at them. Likeeee the booklet calling Manon lazy and selfish was printed in Korea yall. They’ve go their artists singing the n word behind the scenes.

Lowkey their treatment of Manon has me skeptical that a kpop company is capable of successfully managing a multicultural & multiracial group in the US. The old Korean men calling the shots just don’t understand the culture— treating blackness like a trend, inhuman working hours, the value that audiences place on artist involvement in the creative process, etc.

They’ve got the infrastructure but none of the know-how. Plus they seem to expect KATSEYE’s fanbase to act like kpop fans (understand hiatuses, not expect artists to have involvement in the process, etc) but that doesn’t align with the actual composition of their fanbase.

well unfortunately i will not be supporting this katseye comeback for a variety of reasons. it's gotten to the point where it's just not worth it.

to be clear, none of this is on the girls. they're not responsible for anything that i have an issue with and am about to say. they are a victim of what hxg has done to this group. lara, dani, sophia, yoonchae, megan, and manon are completely guiltless in my distaste for the group.

i have issues with the sexualization of the girls being pushed by hxg (NOT how the girls dress and post, but how HXG presents them on tour, in music, and promo). i'd say it all here, but honestly all my thoughts are summed up in this video.

the second problem i have is the longer i look at this group, the more i think katseye is a marketing stunt. they constantly have brand deals. THEY HAVE MORE BRAND DEALS AND ADS THAN MUSIC. it's the perfect group to market products with, and i think hxg knows that and that's their main goal with katseye. to shove as many brand deals their way as possible so they don't have to make as many songs, or even good songs. and it's tiring. I don't care what they're promoting, i'm here for the music and the girls, and when the music is falling flat (and it is. we all know it is) i'm just there for the girls. and when the "eyekons" critize every goddamn little fucking thing they do, the girls no longer interact. which leaves me with... nothing.

my final straw is the constant ai use. if hxg is willing to use ai to promote music, they won't hesitate to use it during production. i don't care. generative ai use is a line i will not cross.

the manon hiatus was a contributing factor as well- she's been treated like shit from the first episode of dream academy to the hiatus and it's like. hxg if you're going to switzerland specifically for a girl to be in your group, why would you treat her like this? paint her as a villain in your documentary, let the fans bombard her with racism and calling her lazy and untalented (BECAUSE of the doc mind you), give her .5 seconds in the groups first song, hide her in the choreo, constantly omit her from various videos and promos, and then send her on hiatus for almost no discernable reason besides it makes a good pr stunt before coachella. hxg, we're not fucking stupid.

the management and handling of this concept has been an absolute shit show and i'm fucking tired of it. so i can't really listen to pinky up or support this comeback in anyway. it just feels wrong at this point.

I actually don't think the hiatus is a publicity stunt anymore like at all. Manon is making smart, public but plausibly deniable moves in the industry & I hope this means she's getting some kind of leverage out of this. What I DO believe is that HxG is using her hiatus as a kind of "she's still in the group!!" jail for her + stringing the fanbase along through random also plausibly deniable OT6 symbolism to milk the shit out of her being phased out. If she's not going to step neatly into their money-making machine they will make the most of dragging her by her ears
