What's the plan for 'Have You Any Faith?' if you do mind me asking?

indefinite hiatus, unfortunately. i have some story ideas and progression written down, but no proper chapters. i wish i had more for you guys, but my attention just hasn't stuck. it sucks, especially because i have things i want to have happen? like wordsmith meeting all the dreamers, the mantis lords + traitor lord, seeing resting grounds... and some of the beats that hoops n strings did, like having mary personally take house calls for infected bugs and use dreamcatchers on them.

i revisit the chapter i have half-written every so often, and still think about hyaf, but im not actively working on it. if i finish making anything else for it, ill be sure to update.

its just... frustrating, because my attention towards it hasnt been constructive enough to get to any of the things i want to tell.

you can still ask me stuff about the story if you want? i dunno how willing i am to share any spoilers, even without having plans to actively post... but ill def talk about it. like those silly posts about wordsmith missing cheese and coffee. i havent lost interest in hyaf, im just mentally ill and only have so much energy to dedicate to things.

Since it’s been a bit: apologies for no hyaf update.

I want to keep working on it, but my creative energies haven’t been able to stay attached to it. Doesn’t help that life has been exhausting. I write it for fun and would have to force myself to churn something out.

i still have ideas and plans for it! im just not sure when ill get around to working on them. that said, im open to asks about it even im not actively working on it.

My mind after reading this

Though it is a little more grim, is also funny. Like imagine being the assassin and then you hear that the assistant of the Wordsmith almost kill her by accident while you tried to kill her for ages. The assassin quits after that jsjsjs

But in a more serious tone, that would be horrifying to hear as a bug, a sound that you not know what it means that is horrible and sound like something dying and they don't know how to help her because she isn't like any bug that they have seen! (She isn't a bug at all).

It is very grim. So far the story has been rather lighthearted (at least in terms of mature content) though I do want to reach more horror toned stuff, especially when we get to the nitty-gritty of dealing with the Infection. I’m a huge fan of horror and I love writing a terrifying excerpt. I’ll include content warnings in the chapter notes if it ever comes to that.

Anyway! Back on topic of your ask.

Plants like poison ivy, poison sumac, and poison oak are called that because they produce an oil called urushiol. It causes an allergic reaction in most humans (some people don’t have a sensitivity to it) and is also eaten by a large variety of bugs. Even without medicine, Wordsmith could deal with a skin rash just fine, even if annoying and painful… but eating it?

The rash would occur inside the throat.

A harsh hacking noise coming from a creature you have no way of ensuring is healthy? Whom won’t let you get close enough to even try?

Horrific.

No but seriously a really fun trope is when the Eldritch Entity is humanity. You see this in books like Watership Down, or Warrior Cats, or any sort of book where the protagonists are simply animals. Maybe very smart and slightly magical animals, but animals nonetheless. A caterpillar has no way of knowing that a lawnmower is only a tool. All it knows is that it causes mass destruction. Cars are loud, dangerous, and fast beasts that kill without mercy, but don’t seek it out. For some reason they are confined to hard black paths.

It creates a very fun dynamic where the reader is intensely familiar with what exactly what the danger is (or lack thereof) but is immersed in the suspense and new perspective of a creature that has no frame of reference for it.

Obviously there are no cars in Hallownest (thankfully) but the Wordsmith is so detached from the common idea of “bug” that a similar affect occurs anyway. You don’t know what this, no definition of yours can encapsulate it, and your knowledge can’t even begin to make a new definition for it. Except, the audience knows exactly what she is. Human.

I actually only had it half-written, but the finished part was meaty enough to stand on its own. So you guys get two chapters for the price of one!
