hybrid babies are much more inclined to follow their instincts because they dont have practice or the ability to regulate themselves. soap has docked ears (old practice) but he and his son are both bullys. also yes gaz's daughter will have ugly wings for a bit, proper baby feathers growing in around two years old.

Not sure if you've answered this but can different monster species have kids together?

They can! I’ve answered this before and it's floating around in the tags somewhere lol.

The long and short of it is that some species are more compatible bc some species have less dominant or more flexible genetics.

Basilisks have very flexible and diverse genes, it's what allows their species to be incredibly diverse in features and abilities. This makes them apt candidates to create hybrids.

Harpies are a species designed to hybridize, basically, but their genetics are fiercely dominant and essentially quash out most of the other contributing species, well, contributions.

Hybrids, however, aren’t great for propagating the gene pool and many (but not all!) wind up infertile.

Hybrid Lore

There are two known cases of a hybrid between a werewolf and a Lycan. The first appearance of a hybrid appeared to have inherited most of its abilities from its werewolf parent. It did inherit some strength from its lycan as well as their lonier tendencies. The second case was not as peaceful.

 The second hybrid actually inherited the Lycan beast from its lycan parent. It is unknown how this happened, but it led to dire consequences. The beast drove the child insane and it ended up killing up both of its parents. It ran off and there were reports of killings during the consecutive full moons after the child disappeared. After a few months the killings stopped and the child disappeared completely.

This explains why lycan children have almost never been recorded. It is possible that if the child inherits the Lycan beast it is driven to insanity and then death before it is even born or shortly after birth.

Note: All of these notes are lore notes for my werewolf/lycan narrative that I hope to write someday.

How would a shark hybrid look compared to a mer? My dumb brain is struggling to differentiate them

Hybrids are still mostly human, while mers are only vaguely human! Please note that this is only general, and there's always some hybrids outside of the norm! Also mers are typically .5× bigger than humans at least :]

Rommy question about hybrids:

Are infant hybrids or newborn hybrids more “animal” like in terms of how they instinctively act than adults, who as you mentioned before especially with Simon try to “overcome” or somewhat hide the “inconvenient” instincts when working or having to essentially mask in a social environment?

Yesss they are!!

Baby hybrids are definitely much closer to their instincts! They also get little characteristics from the baby form of their animal side! Same with kids!

Little opossum hybrids who sleep best when they climb on top of their parents chest. Dog hybrids that bark and whimper long before they learn to speak. Bird hybrid with ugly little dawn feathers who just open their mouths and start chirping when they're hungry for milk.

Also yes, baby bug hybrids look similar to their larvae form either with markings or overall vibe.

do mers and marine hybrids exist within the same universe? if so, how would they interact?

Nope! Mers, hybrids, shifters, and omegaverse are all separate aus!

However, I think it would be hilarious his mers saw aquatic hybrids as weird fucked up babies or maybe just weak mates. Hybrid!reader getting snatched off the beach by curious mer!141, whether they decide you're a mate or pup they're not letting you go...

Do hybrids activate animal allergies? Like if someone is allergic to dogs and they're around a dog hybrid would they start sneezing?

Yep! Hybrids trigger the allergies for their corresponding species!

But!! As a result, allergy meds are sophisticated as FUCK. People who work with hybrids a lot but have allergies just gotta go grab a shot once a month and it's all good. Ofc, if you don't have the money there's always the over-the-counter stuff that's better than our irl versions.

There may be some situations in which someone is unable to take the meds, either an allergy to the medicine or some other health reason. In which case they just kinda suffer lol.

Do insect hybrids undergo metamorphosis?

Kinda, yes!!

They don't go through the extreme transformation one may think of, but certain butterfly/moth/beetle hybrids may create a case to grow their wings in their early teens. Either by the skin on their back sort of hardening like a chrysalis, or by spinning silk to cover their backs while the delicate wings form and shake strength!!

The process lasts only a few months depending on hybrid and strength of presentation. Unveiling the wings is considered to be an important but private affair between family and close friends.

It's not uncommon for hybrid kids to get fancy jackets with protective backs to ensure their wings are safe. It's treated as just another part of life, though there's plenty of teasing and teenage embarrassment that comes along with being any sort of teen.
