Hi, I wanted to ask about "thermogenic supplements" (like hydroxycut) and whether they actually do anything helpful. Supposedly, taking them before a work out raises the amount of calories you burn, but it just sounds like a magic pill to me. Problem is, all I find when I try to research them is testimonials and paid ads. Any idea about these?

Stay away from any weight loss pill that promises easy and instant results. You’ll lose weight, but it comes at a big cost.

To put it in basic terms, these products “work” by promoting body heat production in your body. They mimic the effects of cardio exercise in order to force your body into burning more calories, even while you sit. A lot of them contain stimulants like caffeine - This increases your heart rate and blood pressure, and can raise your core tempterature.

The side effects of thermogenic supplements can be nasty:

Addiction

Anxiety

Insomnia

Abdominal pain

Diarrhea

Heart palpitations

Cardiac arrhythmia

Seizures

Don’t get pulled in to this junk. If you want some extra energy, drink a cup of coffee instead. Messing around with medication that raises your heart rate, especially if you plan on exercising that day in order to burn even more calories, is incredibly dangerous. These supplements are fickle at the best of times and outright fatal at the worst.

And think about it - Why would you want to force your body into losing weight? As soon as you stop taking the supplement, your body will go back to burning calories at a normal rate and you will gain back any fat that was lost. Do you really want to take these pills forever? Do you want to keep adding that damage to your heart? If your end goal is truly to be healthy, then there are much better ways of developing a balanced and beneficial lifestyle.

Day two on hydroxycut

Today I took my second day of hydroxycut. So far I'm craving healthier foods and I'm not eating as much as I normally would. I'm also sweating like crazy, which is normal. It doesn't help that I wear a think work uniform. I feel confident about it and I'm two pounds less than what I was yesterday, but my body fluctuates. Now to see if I'm still a low weight tomorrow.

So in the past two years I have gained about 40 pounds. Today I began taking Hydroxycut.

I currently weigh 176lbs and am 5'8". My goal weight is 130lbs. I’m going to weigh myself every week to see how much I lose and I’ll keep you guys posted.

I have a lot of energy right now and no appetite which is a first for me.
