Feathermage & @winebearcat 's Handers rom-com now has a new chapter!
fandom: male Hawke / Anders
rating: E
tags: modern AU, college AU, teacher / student relationship, age difference, secret relationship
summary: Dr. Anders is a Professor of Social Justice at the University of Oxford in England, and Garrett Hawke is a rich American playboy planning to coast through a prestigious degree with as little effort as possible. What Garrett does not figure on is being enraptured with his opinionated instructor. Anders will teach Hawke many things, and foremost of these is what really matters in life.
We thought we would, you know, finish this fic after 8 years. Because why not? =D
Feathermage, the artist formerly known as ilyahna1980, has rediscovered @winebearcat in the wilds!!
Couldn't resist reposting this art from Dorian-Trash (aka @badookie)
So excited about this project!!!
We will be editing the entire story to bring it forward to 2024 and reposting <<Here>>!
Hey everyone, @glowing-blue-feathermage (formerly ilyahna1980) and I have been hard at work editing/revamping A Hundred Years From Now!
One of the major changes is that we've pulled the story forward to 2024 (from 2005) as some of the content was dated, so we agreed to modernise it. That's right. These idiots are going to have social media.
Please continue to bear with us as we edit the existing story (and will share once complete). In the meantime, here's some new WIP content under the cut that will be retroactively inserted as Chapter 4.
"You look great," Garrett shakes his head. "You always do."
Glancing up at him in mild surprise, Elias meets his student's eyes and feels like he's being pulled slowly and inexorably to the edge of a cliff.
"If you are attempting to flatter your way to a first, it's hardly necessary if you truly apply yourself." He can't help the fact that it's pleasing to hear and is sure the fact isn't well-hidden.
Garrett raises an eyebrow and mirrors the professor’s surprise. "I wasn’t — " he teases, but a shrill ringtone pierces the space between them. Garrett pats a coat pocket and fishes his phone out, glancing at the cracked screen with a scowl.
"Sorry," Garrett mutters and cancels the call with a click. He meets Dr. Anders’ gaze, then pauses. His eyes flick back down to the phone in his palm, brain visibly whirring.
"Actually," he slides his phone open again. "Would you mind if I took your number down, Professor? In case I get lost going to the conference."
There is exactly one reason that Elias might ever give his personal phone number out to a student, and Garrett Hawke has discovered what that is, apparently. If only it didn't make perfect sense, and was easy to escape from.
"Well we can't have you getting lost," he says, plucking the phone from Garrett's hand when he sees the contacts list open and ready.
He types his name, adds Ph.D. at the end just to be obnoxious, and then adds his phone number. "If you share this with anyone, I will haunt you."
Garrett beams and draws closer. With the professor still holding his phone, he leans down to peer at the screen. Their shoulders brush as Garrett starts to laugh. "You have a Ph.D.? I had no idea," he teases, then pulls up the keyboard. Garrett taps the smiley face icon in the bottom left corner. An endless scroll of emojis appears, and he quickly types in cat. Several options are presented to him, ranging from black to orange to yellow. He taps a white one, adding it after Ph.D.
“Purrfect,” he says, looking pleased with himself.
Elias can't help a chuckle, just like he apparently can't help anything else today. "For emergencies whilst travelling in London on the 4th only," he stresses, giving Garrett a stern look. Saying it loudly enough to hopefully generate a witness.
Garrett nods absentmindedly. “Yup, got it,” he murmurs, then pulls up WhatsApp. He has thirty-one unread chats, then creates a new one by typing in Dr. Anders’ name.
hawke, he fires off, before plucking his phone from the professor’s fingers.
“There’s my number. In case of emergency,” he adds quickly.
The Kominas did an unplugged house party last month to raise money for Flint. From the looks of this video, it looked pretty fun. I can’t wait for their summer national tour so that we can finally see them perform on the West Coast! Check out this interview over at HYFN:
Within an hour this Bed Stuy brownstone was completely packed out with people that seemed to come from all different backgrounds. It was cool to see such a diverse audience start cheering when The Kominas started off their set with "Tujhe Dekha" from Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge - something you'd expect from mainly brown kids. The rest of the evening was them acoustically singing songs they usually scream into a mic, a sea of dismembered manikin parts surfing the crowd, and over $400 being raised to help the water crisis in Flint. [HYFN]
New York had an awesome show last week - with DJ Rekha, DJ Haram, Saturday Night Killing Machine and The Kominas. Check out HYFN’s show review here.
Also check out our new friends the online magazine HYFN - they produced this video and have a dynamic website where they are hitting the Desi-Am Pop Culture scene hard with amazing videos and photos. We love what they are doing and hope to work closely with them in the future! Check it out!
