“Sure, like maybe I should bring all my stuff now, for when I think about never going back again, huh?” a playful laugh resonates from her lips after sharing such thoughts, glancing over the doctor who was watching her pack some clothes. He was the sensible conscience holding her back from being too spontaneous or impulsive, but this time, he’d let her ramble on and on about wanting to go to some South American country. He wasn’t even surprised when she told him she’d booked for a week-long trip for Peru. Doing it for the llamas, she said.
“I’m going to hike to the Machu Picchu with these god-given legs, doc. Can you believe? They say the place is so beautiful, though, it’s like a little fulfillment when you get to see its whole beauty. And then maybe I can jump–” she expects Kyungsoo’s owl-like eyes to widen, but it only make her beam. “–kidding, of course.”
Despite digesting the joke without giving it much thought, he insisted on letting her pack her bags and flee the country, silently reminding her to look back without regret as she brings only the necessities with her. The extra baggage which followed her from Fukuoka must be left behind, he thinks. With a clenched fist, he planned to advise her with that too, but he held his tongue between his teeth. He wasn't in place to say something so recklessly, and neither was he prepared to reflect on his own accounts of overdue baggage disposal. "Maybe you should."
"I only pray that wherever you're going to set foot on–" A short pause as he exhales to let out the father-like anxiousness he possessed over this whole South American trip of hers. "You'll make a mark with your footprints. Marks that won't be transient like the ones cast on shorelines, exciting but evanescent. I want marks that would leave a lasting impression, until we're both in our 60's, in our rocking chairs as we swing back and forth while admiring the landscape of New Zealand."
