Soy un simple espectador
Man that youtuber hyram really made a skincare line called “selfless” where its overpriced, you get like tester sized bottles (for $40), he plastered images of like 3rd world countries in the advertising as like weird inspiration porn??? Seemingly under 10% of profits are actually going to any sort of charity even though the line is marketed exclusively as being charitable and eco-friendly. People are throwing around the word white savior a lot and it seems fitting. I feel like i’d have a lot less of a problem with a product line from him if it was just a open cash grab. But the fact its veiled with being called selfless and is like “you’re making a difference buying this!” feels real gross. Like just do a donation drive for those charities idk.

Skin Care Has a Racism Problem
Skin care and makeup both have a racism problem. They aren’t as inclusive as they should be, and are dominated by white people caring about white skin.
Here is a video that gives a very simple explanation of some of the racism in the skin care industry and skin care community, for anyone wanting to know more.
If you are interested in makeup and skin care, you need to be aware that racism is everywhere in these communities and industries. We need to be willing to call it out, vote with our dollars, listen to people of color (especially black and indigenous people), and to stop doing culturally appropriative and other racist things with our makeup. We need to stop supporting racist skin care gurus and racist makeup artists, stop supporting racist brands, etc. We need to do better.
And I really appreciate Hyram for being willing to be such an open minded person and such a loud and proud ally, because many influencers would never be willing to speak up about this kind of thing. And I really am glad he is using his platform to boost the voice of a black influencer, because we all need to be listening to black people right now.
Love Always, Adelaide
