some thoughts about the recent su audio leak

I’ve seen some people compare Steven to Jasper, as he wants to use Fusion, a very special, intimate experience, as a quick way to feel worthy, not really considering the other’s feelings

Which yeah I can see that, but I also realized, Steven is trying to pull a Ruby and Sapphire.

When they split up upon learning about Rose, Ruby in particular struggled with being her own Gem for the very first time in her life. Ruby, even after 6000 years, had never learned to find worth in herself. Her solution, thanks to Steven (hint hint) was to propose to Sapphire, promising her they’d always be together on their own terms.

And in their case, it worked! Steven (hint hint) helped with their wedding, and now Garnet represents a marriage, a marriage not between two Gems who don’t know any better and don’t know who they are without each other, but between two people who love and cherish one another.

So Steven is trying to do the same thing, but only superficially. We can assume that, at this point, he feels alone, angry, and worthless. He might have alienated the Crystal Gems (or feel like he did), and Connie might be the last person in his circle. He proposed to her much like Ruby did, so that they’d never be apart, and they could live forever and be happy as long as they could.

But Connie isn’t a Gem. It’s not innate for humans to want to be Fused, especially not for a long time. Connie saw Steven’s proposal as him asking to throw both of their lives and identities away to become another being. And Steven might have reached a point of self-loathing so strong that the thought is now appealing to him, but of course Connie would reject him, even if it wasn’t a proposal between two 17 year olds.

At worst, considering Stevonnie doesn’t really have their own identity, Steven might even subconsciously want to constantly have Connie in his mind, to soothe him when needed and the other way around, in the most co-dependent relationship they could have.

This might be the most toxic, worrying thing Steven has ever done, and it’s also the culmination of all the Fridge Horror surrounding Fusion.

And as much as on the surface a boy throwing a temper tantrum over being friendzoned might sound lame if not problematic, feeling rejected by Connie and therefore having the confirmation he’s truly unwanted and alone... might be the last straw.

A24 has pushed back the release date of the Andrew Garfield-starring crime thriller “Under the Silver Lake” from June 22 to Dec. 7 following a mixed critical reception at the Cannes Film Festival.

A24 made the move Friday, three weeks before the movie would have opened. A24 came on to the project in 2016 in the wake of director David Robert Mitchell’s success with the horror thriller “It Follows.”

The move could give Mitchell time to re-cut the 139-minute film.
