With the rivalry sort of dynamic you're considering for some of the ROs, something that might interest you is how @roast-ifs structures the friendship stats for When It Hungers. It's set up so that there are 2 stats that describe closeness with each main character. One is friendship which is about how close you are and the other is rivalry vs amiability, which colors more of your dynamic. Not saying this is how you should do it and this might not be exactly what you're going for for the rivals/enemies to lovers route(s), but I thought it was a cool idea and wanted to share in case it might interest you or give you some ideas for how you want to go about it.
noo that’s EXACTLY how I wanted to do it! I didn’t want to sacrifice closeness and relationship progression for the sake of the relationship/friendship style so that’s where I got stuck trying to figure out how to do it in a way that’s natural, so that suggestion really helps
