byler falling back into routine when will gets back from california without saying a word about it is so everything to me,, even if it's summer, if will falls asleep on the sofa or on mike's bed, mike puts a blanket over him so he never has to feel cold. if there's cucumber in a sandwich will's been given, mike will steal it and eat it for him. if will is having a nightmare, mike won't wake him up unless he calls for help, but moves closer until will has something to grasp onto. will refuses to let mike cut his own apples because he always brings the knife toward his own thumb instead of cutting away from it, and that's stupid. mike's toothbrush goes on the left-hand-side of the sink and will's on the right.

there has never been a distance further or more expansive then that of hawkins to california, but mike and will don't lose a moment's time getting back into their old habits with each other again
