“Belle!  Belle, come quick!”  

Belle nearly dropped her teacup when Bae burst in through her kitchen door, gasping for breath.  With trembling hands, she managed to set cup and saucer down on the kitchen table.

“What is it?  What’s wrong?” she demanded.  Bae hadn’t closed the front door behind him.  Belle peered anxiously over his shoulder, her eyes darting about, looking for the Duke’s men.  But there was no trace of horses or knights clad all in black.  Just the first buds and greenery of early spring.
