✨unpopular opinion,✨ but i think the stevebucky vs sambucky ship argument/who-shoulda-got-the-shield argument is just. really dumb.
before anyone comes after me with a flamethrower, let me say a few words. firstly, if steve rogers was around to hear anybody talking bad about sam wilson being captain america, he'd definitely give you a piece of his mind. yes, in the comics bucky got the shield, but in the mcu steve choose sam. and if you reject that as canon, then sure. you do you and that's completely okay. but what's not okay is 1. hating on the character || 2. hating on fans of that character || 3. hating on the actor who plays said character.
i personally-- ooh, opinion alert --think that steve made a good decision passing down the shield to sam. i dislike endgame with a firey burning passion, but if i'm acknowledging that movie, then yes, i think it was the right choice. and don't get me wrong, i ABSOLUTELY LOVE bucky. he's one of my favorites. it's just that i cannot see him 1. wanting to lead a team (side note: congress baffles me so i have some headcanons/thoughts there that contradict him actually wanting a position of leadership, and i also headcanon that yelena's in charge of the thunderbolts and if anything bucky would be like a co-leader or something, so maybe i am biased) || 2. being mentally stable enough to deal with the pressure that comes with having the shield, which both he and steve may have realized, i don't know || 3. wanting the attention that also comes with the shield. post-hydra bucky seems pretty closed off and private, and captain america is a very public figure. it just doesn't make sense for his personality, in my opinion.
but if you're a bucky-as-cap stan, then good for you! i think it's a great comics plotline, it could have been good in the mcu if marvel had decided to go that route, and i have nothing against it. just don't be a hater cause that sucks for everyone.
and in my head, i think that if you're a steve fan then you should be a sam fan and vice versa. doesn't mean you have to like sam as captain america, doesn't mean you still have to think of steve as captain america anymore, doesn't mean you have to a pick a favorite in the first place. but bashing them? makes no sense to me. they're besties, y'all. they'd be disappointed in this whole shebang with everybody picking fights.
oh and here's this comics panel for the millionth time because it's actually my whole captain america philosophy.
okay, now moving onto the ship argument. that part doesn't make sense to me because... they're both bucky ships. i don't know. it makes no sense when i say it like that, but it makes sense in my head?? it just seems like sambucky shippers should be backing up stevebucky shippers and vice versa (round of applause to the stevesambucky/all caps shippers 🤣). we're all fighting the long and very tragic war against canon, whether it has already sunk our ship or is threatening to (cough cough endgame and doomsday). and like i said! if you're a steve fan then you should be a sam fan and the other way around too, so why must we hate on absolutely everything between them. but alas. i still see the ship and shield argument everywhere, and it's not friendly debate anymore. there's a difference. again, maybe i'm just biased because i'm a multishipper and ship both of those, but i think i have a point either way.
i don't know, man. that's just been going around in my head for a while. if anyone has further questions, comments, or concerns, then feel free to take it up in the comments section here or in my askbox thingy thang. i will happily yap as long as there's no yelling. or flaming pitchforks.
no matter what side you're on, cheers and good day ✌️
