@just-about-nothing
Rest in peace Edith Keeler you’d have loved making spirk zines in the 70s
i'm into ice dying & kind of tie dye if i had the space & patience. i think i posted that set i made a week ago? anyway so i dyed some material using dharma's alchemist, which is specifically formulated to split like Crazy for ice dying. it did and it is extremely rad and so pretty to look at. but... for the purposes of clothing i almost prefer the blue grey & charcoal grey t shirt i did an incline dye for. it's just not so VAVAVOOM and already wearing tie dye in homemade clothes is a lot ya know. idk, we'll see how i feel when it's an actual garment. it's just funny to be like 'well this is too pretty to use actually. the dye worked too well, in its splits.'
nickname poll
So currently I answer to my full first name (which I usually introduce myself with) as well as two nicknames/diminutives plus my last name when people mistake it for a first name. There are two or three other nicknames I've also gone by in the past. I'm perfectly fine with this, or neutral at minimum-- I have a common name and have had to be flexible with how I'm distinguished for my whole life. I also don't feel a deep and fundamental connection of my name with my identity, though I think going by another name entirely would confuse me.
A number of friends have been appalled at me being called names I don't say are my name. Which is really weird to me, although I'd go to battle for anyone else who was getting either deadnamed or called something they didn't want. But this perspective seems surprisingly common!
How do you feel about being called something other than the name you introduce yourself with?
I think it's fun if people give me (non-derogatory) nicknames or shorten my name
I don't care if people call me something else and will answer to it
I'm mildly uncomfortable or annoyed but won't make an issue of it
I HATE being called something else and will always correct people

i'm getting the sense some of you are not actually forklift certified.
well damn . egg on my face
THE PLOT THICKENS @averagejoey2000 explain yourself
I can't believe this is how I'm finding out that I got a scam forklift cert.
I took the cargo ops class at school but my teacher explained that it doesn't give a certification and I'd only be okay for ship's crane and the school forklifts. she said I could take an online exam and get my cert. I paid 60 bucks.
I'm googling and I'm seeing a lot of resources saying that the online programs cover the classroom part of the exam but not the in person practical aspect.
29 CFR 1910.178 (l)(2)(ii)
but I did the in person practical shit at school.
the back of the card even had fancy numbers on it. I couldn't have known that this isn't the one. this website sounded more official than certifyme.net, and there wasn't one with a .gov address.
so, I emailed OSHA, and they said that so long as I live and work in California, there's no such thing as forklift certification. I have to be told how to do it every time I get the job.
Update: I took a certification class in shipboard Material Handling Equipment at my federal job. *now* I'm forklift certified, but only on ships and piers and only for this company, but also rated to forklift explosives and hazardous materials. Also I'm a woman now.
olympic gold in hitting christian babies with a bat
points deduction. that last baby was a calvinist
oh my god people yes i know calvinism is a type of christianity the joke is that it doesn't take skill to hit a baby who's predestined to get hit come on

anne bonny the character of all time. she’s one of the deadliest people in the show. she’s soul-tied to the 18th century pirate version of a rat terrier. she comes to grips with being gay only after committing double homicide about it. she probably bites. she deeply needs to be known and loved. she cannot bear being known and loved. she’s a ginger.
how do you usually read a chaptered fic on ao3?
enitre work
chapter by chapter
secret third option
personally i always use the entire work option. i only ever change to chapter by chapter if i’m trying to find something
The reason Kirk is so accommodating of Spock pretending he doesn’t have emotions is because he is also pretending he doesn’t have emotions like fear or anger or lust and probably has wished taht he was a Vulcan so he could be a more perfect captain send post
This is lowkey also the reason bones is always arguing with Spock. Bones also pretends he doesn’t have (serious) emotions. Like sadness or disappointment or anything vulnerable tbh, and he sees Spock doing better at pretending. He’s always making fun of Spock being too Vulcan, but maybe he wishes he had a bit of Vulcan in him to make pretending a bit easier?
@kilorechoy LMAO
I was gonna describe Palpatine’s spaces as like the bloody insides of a large beast, but the more I thought about it
…Palpatine’s office is a womb right? Its where Sidious’ perfect apprentice is developed. He’s nurtured in this space by Palpatine until he Anakin leaves it reborn Vader.
Like there’s really so much to say about Palpatine and yonic symbolism.
He’s also almost an anti-mother. With Anakin only knowing a mother’s love, and both of his major conflicts being about saving his mother and the mother of his children, Palpatine is a perversion of both. With Palpatine eventually replacing both Shmi and Padmé. Initially taking a nurturing role throughout his conflict over his mother, and eventually becoming the person Vader is most dedicated to through his conflict over Padmé.
Shmi’s child (Anakin) dies and is reborn Darth Vader. Idk it’s just paired with the raw bloody entrance like outfit we wears. They’re in this red organ like office and Vader is being born through Sidious. Its almost a gory birth scene.
Then there’s like the inverse of Anakin with his mother happening in this scene. With Palpatine arriving on time.
Yo, heads up on the elizabeth holms post from 2014. Came out years ago that she was actually running a huge scam with the blood thing and is perhaps not so girlboss

I don't think we give The Beatles enough credit for the fact they wrote one of the first metal songs ever (Helter Skelter) and it's about having a fun time at the playground
Like dgmw I think if anything the Beatles get too much credit for inventing metal and I don't think one (1) song invented the entire genre, but it was definitely an influence for a lot of metal bands later.
HOWEVER. I don't think we acknowledge the fact Helter Skelter is literally a song about going down a slide enough. A proto metal banger and it's about going down a slide.
