I'm re-reading my old writing on @cdearings and @landspeeding and I'm like mmmm 2015. A bad year mentally but a great year for my writing.
I constantly think about this one video game I played when I was little where you played as a puppy but I only remember weird details like there were kiwis and I used to fuck with the kiwis and there was a dragon boss and I was scared of it and a bog and whenever I played in the bog part I’d sit there coming up with words that rhymed with bog (log, dog, fog, etc.) and I think there were bulls and I dunno. I think it was from the Petz Dogz series but point is I loved that game and whenever I think about it the nostalgia is intense.
saejima took up woodcarving as an actual hobby and he enjoys it, to the point where he actually learned about different types of wood, and even researched carving and sculping stone and plaster. he doesn’t speak much about it, nor does he actually show off his work, but it’s a good way to relax, wind down, and reflect, something he often does as a way to cope with past traumas. he doesn’t consider himself a sculptor or even an artist, but has an unwavering eye for detail and a need to capture every single one and commit it to the material he’s carving.
he typically carves either from life, photos, or from memory, but rarely does anything abstract, preferring to focus around animals, people, and subjects of mythology like dragons or demons. some sculptures are subject to violent destruction--not necessarily out of anger, but taking the emotions quietly poured into the sculpture as it was being carved, and releasing them through physical expulsion.
