We’re at the Aquatics centre for the final bit of fun of our mini-break in London. The girls are about to go on this inflatable obstacle course. The Athletics yesterday was amazing. I’ve never been to a live sporting event before and I enjoyed it lots more than I was expecting. The atmosphere was incredible. We saw the heptathlon javelin, long jump and 800m, the pole vault, hurdles 110m and 400m, 3000m steeplechase, shotput and the women’s 100m final. And we saw Jess Ennis-Hill receive her newly awarded gold medal from 2011, and Usain Bolt recieve the last medal of his career.
We’ve also had fun visiting Covent Garden, the V&A, seeing Mamma Mia at the theatre and shopping in Westfield. We stayed in a fabulous Airbnb apartment within the Olympic Park, so when 60 000 people were streaming off to the station at the end of the athletics sessions, we just got the stewards to let us through the barriers and walked home in 2 mins *much smugness*.
Food wise, things have been good. It’s nice to be able to go with the flow and not feel an urgent need to plan and micro-manage everything in advance. We have had a lot of snacky meals but I have tried to listen to my body and go with what it needs energy and nutrition wise. I still appreciate feeling present in the moment and only realising afterwards that I haven’t thought about food at all. The only bad part is I’ve had some uncomfortable moments in my body when waves of panic momentarily rush through me about my size. I try and ride them out but I could definitely do without them.
Heading off for the journey home later. We’ll be glad to get back for a rest!
