I wish criticisms of the new bogus version of that autism committee (the IACC) and some of the people elected to it didn't also usually come with ableist ideas about the people who are part of it. "These nonspeakers are clearly being manipulated and are using "debunked" communication methods, therefore this committee is illegitimate".

It's illegitimate because the people on it have psuedoscientific beliefs about vaccines, among other things related to modern ideas about autism, not because of the communication methods some of them use.

It's possible to criticize while also respecting the autonomy of the people involved, especially as nonspeaking people who require a lot of support to communicate are among the most silenced and dehumanized.
