Sam’s a BAMF
Here is reason #8,429.
As I was re-watching Supernatural I came across Season 12 Episode One: “Keep Calm and Carry On.”
In this episode, Sam is chained to a chair as the British Men of Letters torture him for information about other hunters.
So in this episode the woman pictured above burns Sam’s right foot. This happens about 23 minutes into the episode. We get to see a good look at the burns on his foot, about three minutes later. Sorry didn’t find a picture of it but you can reference the show if you have a way to view it.
As a nurse I’ve seen many a wound, some burns and some not. This experience paired with a few minutes of google research has led me to think that Sam's wounds were at minimum deep partial thickness wound (a bad second degree). But more likely they were full thickness (3rd degree) wounds, damaging all of the skin and at least part of the muscle and tendons on the side of his foot.
For your reference : Burns
My point is that his foot was definitely injured. He would have needed a lot of daily wound care and dressing changes. And maybe some physical therapy if his muscles were effected. And he would need weeks before he was up to anything like putting a boot on.
But he’s Sam Fucking Winchester. So he is up and walking the same day/that night in the very next episode, “Mamma Mia.”
I guess Chuck wrote them to be supernaturally resilient.
