While still on Archie Sonic’s failings, I randomly thought back to Dr. Ian Droid, the villain Ken Penders envisioned as the Ultimate Evil Of All Evils in the setting and lore of his epic Echidnaverse, far more vicious and dangerous than Robotnik could ever hope to be, and whose threat level warranted Locke microwaving his son to give him enhanced powers tied to the Chaos Emeralds. Yeah, the idea is stupid and made even stupider with Droid’s one time appearance in a crossover with Image Comics with zero presence and a design that looked cheaper than what the cover of that special issue showed us.

And then for whatever reason, I thought of Dr. Regal from the Mega Man Battle Network (or NT Warrior) series. Yeah, he was a terrible, stupid villain in his games (especially his debut outing), but not only did he at least have potential that those games constraints and simple script writing held him back from, he also got to become an actually awesome, hardcore, wonderfully wicked villain in anime and manga adaptations that saw that potential realized. He actually sells what a major threat he is and that he is indeed far more evil than the famed Dr. Wily. But the thing there is? In the games and manga at least, the previously established and still present major villains (Wily and Bass EXE respectfully) still get to come out on top over Regal. Whereas with Droid, you just know Penders would never so much as even think to extend that courtesy to Robotnik, something that even Ian Flynn was able to do in regards to Eggman VS Dr. Starline!

So yeah, I gladly stan Dr. Regal over Ian Droid or Starline any day!
