“I’m a camp counselor and you’re a mermaid that lives in the lake, please stop scaring the kids” a moodboard by @gamorazenn
A/N: This is for @itsbuckysworld 's writing challenge!! I know I left it to like the last minute but I hope you like it. This was completely different to what I originally had in mind but I like where I went with this idea. Enjoy!!
Prompt: A: "we could go camping!" Later -> B: "whose idea was it to go camping this is a disaster!"
Summary: After events in CATWS, Steve, Sam and Y/N help Bucky escape the government. After running out of ideas one them suggests camping, which shouldn't be too bad right?
Words: 582
You and Sam were there to meet Bucky as he pulled Steve from the river. No words were spoken as Sam knelt by him, making sure he was okay. After Steve became conscious, Bucky started walking away. He had this distressed and emotional look on his face, almost desperate to get away from everyone. You wanted to help him.
You looked over to Steve, and it's like he knew what you were thinking, you just nodded and ran after Bucky cautiously.
"Hey wait up," you say which causes the soldier to stop in his tracks which made you freeze on the spot.
After a few seconds you continue in a soft tone, "It's okay, let me help you. Please I want to help you". You slowly made your way in front of him so he could see you mean no harm. You were sure to leave him some room, he looked so vulnerable.
"Let us help you, rather than running off alone. Or even just let me take a look at your injuries before you walk away. Let me help you, please." You plead.
"Why would you want to help me?" Bucky said in a quiet voice with his eyebrows scrunched up in confusion.
"Because I trust you, Bucky. Any friend of Steve's, is a friend of mine." You say stepping a bit closer to him.
You saying that caused Bucky to look up with a look of relief on his face. He nodded and you both walked back to where Sam and Steve.
A Month Later.
Nat had given Steve a satellite phone that only she could get hold of to keep us all up-to-date with the situation. She mentioned about the government claiming to put Barnes' case on hold temporarily, as she had been feeding them false information about the whereabouts of Steve and Sam and they had no other leads to help them with the case.
The good thing about you was that no one knew about your involvement in helping the Captain and his team in DC, so the government didn't check up on your whereabouts at all. You're just another shield agent with a good rep.
The four of you were currently staying in a dingy motel, this was the third one you've been to in the last couple weeks. You didn't want to government to find you so you all hopped from one motel to the next.
Bucky and Sam were currently watching some really bad reality tv show, they both were talking about it and laughing.
You and Steve were sitting at the small dinner table one the other side of the room, trying to come up with other solutions to keep Bucky safe. So far all the ones that you've both suggested were beyond stupid.
"We can't just keep going from motel to motel Steve." you sighed as you lean back in the chair.
"I have an idea" Sam spoke up with a cheeky smile, gaining the attention of the rest of us.
"This is gonna be good" you say jokingly, crossing your arms.
"We could go camping, like out in the middle of nowhere. So we don't have to keep running and we could choose a place that's not too far from resources." Sam said simply.
"Ya know that's not a bad idea" Steve shrugged.
You looked over to Bucky to see if it was ok with him, he nodded as a response.
"I guess a change of scenery would do us some good" you agreed.
Summary: There is only one way to settle a bet. Spoiler - it involves sexual tension and an extreme game of laser tag
Warnings: miniscule amounts of swearing
A/N: This is for @itsbuckysworld summer writing challenge! Massive thank you for letting me take part. The prompt was "What can I say, I have a weakness for people that can lift me over their heads”, and I had an absolute blast writing it!
This was it. The time that everyone was waiting for. The first Friday of every month. Training Day. Where the entire team played a game under the premise that it would help teambuilding and tactics. Last month, the team tried their hand at go karts (obviously to aide their get-away driving), the month before that had been paint-balling. Others included capture the flag and a particularly intense game of hide-and-seek with a twist. The twist being the sniffer dogs that Tony deployed unexpectedly.
Today was laser tag and this was the game that mattered the most because of the bet that had been going on between you and your fellow Avenger, Bucky Barnes. Since you joined the team 2 years ago, you had formed a strong love-hate relationship with the man, and it had only intensified with time. So maybe you wished the relationship was more love, but there was no way that you would admit that you often dreamt of the way his muscles rippled in the gym, or the way his eyes sparkle after he’s told a corny joke, and how you ask him to plait your hair, just so you can relish in the feeling of his fingers scratching at your scalp. That was a secret you would take to the grave, and at least your current friendship allowed you to spend more time together, even if it was to make jibes at the other.
It all started in one of the first training days that you had participated in. You had headed one of the teams and Bucky led the other. You narrowly won, and after many untrue accusations of cheating, a rematch was set for the next month, and the month after that, until a bet was set. The first to win 10 games won the bet. If you won, you got his prized Harley Davidson motorcycle. However, if he won, he got your room. Your room was well renowned by the Avengers to be the best in the compound. It had the best view, looking over the forest with the sea in the distance, and the fact that it was next to the swimming pool was an added bonus. There was absolutely no way in hell you were letting him have it. You were currently running at an 9 all tie, meaning that this match was the decider.
With Natasha and Sam away on mission, your team consisted of Steve, Bruce and Peter. Bruce often played a key planning role, but on the field, he was a bit of a liability, and refused to answer to code green. Peter often got distracted. Apparently, he needed full on violence with a detailed backstory to be able to fight a fight. So, there was that. You couldn't trust Steve not to take Bucky's side, no matter how much he promised not to, meaning you were in a bit of a dilemma.
Bucky's team was Tony, Rhodey and Clint. Rhodey was the one who had recruited you after a particular tour in the marines, but no matter how hard you tried to persuade him to spy for you, he refused. Damn his loyalty and good morals. Tony was no use either, he couldn't be bribed and was far too competitive against Steve to let you win. Your last hope was Clint, who was pretty useless in these games; he usually hid in the vents before swooping down in the last minute and claiming victory.
Both teams were sitting in the briefing room where you and Bucky were going through the rules.
"No cheating," Bucky listed, "No tampering with the electric vests, no powers."
"No external influences," you cut in, staring pointedly at Tony, "Canine or otherwise. You know the rest, team footloose with me to talk tactics."
"Team hotshot we’ll stay here.”
Once you gathered in your respective teams, the plan was set into motion. Peter was already giving everyone codenames; he had been watching lots of James Bond recently and was getting very much into it. You were Eagle, and to be honest, you were pretty chuffed with it. Bruce was Eeyore, for his docile manner and maintenance of a realistic, if somewhat pessimistic, outlook on life. Steve was Eton Mess, due to his blonde hair, pale complexion and now slightly burnt nose from a mission the week before, and Peter was Excel. The reasoning behind that is unclear. You think he just really likes Excel.
"Alright," you began, "You all know how important this is to me. Bucky cannot win, under any circumstances. There's a lot riding on this, and if he gives me one of his damn smug smirks, someone will die. He's beyond competitive and will take any opportunity to rub it into our faces."
"Come on, (Y/n)," Bruce said, "You're just as competitive as he is!"
"That's absurd, I'm far more competitive and you know it." You stated, before continuing with the plan. "Peter, you're gonna go all sticky on those vents and flush out Clint, I turned off his hearing aids this morning, so it'll be easier for you to sneak up on him. Bruce, I need you to try and engage with Rhodey, distracting him with talks of peace and all that shit, before taking him out. Steve, I need you on Tony. He'll be flying high in the suit, trying to suss out the plan from above. You need to lay low until he hits the ground, and then take him out once he gets cocky. I'm going to take down Bucky, and he will suffer."
⁎⁎⁎
Half an hour in, and the plan was working. Mostly. Peter had successfully taken out Clint, but Tony had managed to shoot Bruce from above before he could talk to Rhodey. Steve shot Rhodey in the distraction, but Tony got him too. You had managed to shoot Tony whilst he came down to gloat to Steve. You had allowed yourself a small smirk before finding Bucky. Peter was still hidden in the vents and had taken to talking in your ear at a rapid pace.
"Eagle! Eeyore said that bird's eye view was the easiest option, so maybe we should rendezvous at East exit where Eton Mess was eliminated, Excel over."
"That was a hell of a lot of E's there, Parker," you spoke quietly into the comms. "We're gonna need to clarify these codenames because we are barrelling towards a misunderstanding."
The comforting weight of the rifle in your arms allowed you to focus on the task ahead, whilst ignoring Peter’s blabbering into the radio. You stalked along the side of the building, holding your breath. As you were about to round the corner, you saw him. Bucky was stood behind a low wall, pointing his rifle over the top and very much on guard. He made a move towards the building that you had been heading for, and you pointed your gun to aim at him. As you looked down your sights, you saw Peter also pointing his gun at Bucky.
"No!" You shouted, hurtling towards Bucky. You barely registered Bucky's shocked face before you lifted him over your shoulder in a fireman's lift, and slammed him against the wall he had been standing behind moments before. You'd be damned if after all this you weren't going to be the one to take Bucky down. You needed as much gloating material as possible. Before you could act further, Bucky threw you against a make-shift boulder, pressing his entire body against yours. As he pinned you down, you felt an unmistakeable hardness against your upper thigh, and you had to fight hard to keep a smile under control.
"What are you doing?" He growled.
"Wanted to make sure I was the one who shot you," you smirked, "But now it seems I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place." You raised an eyebrow and peered down at the offending appendage.
Bucky moved back from you, his eyes wide. A pink blush dusted his cheeks and the tips of his ears. Despite his clear embarrassment, he let out a gentle laugh.
"It would be so much less hassle if you two just kissed and got it over with," Tony interrupted your moment. He had clearly given himself access into your comms as well. In response, before Bucky could do anything, you pushed him back onto the opposite wall, pressing yourself into him, and leaned close to his ear.
"Whaddya say, Sarge?" you whispered, making sure your breath reached his neck, and relished when goose bumps appeared, "Don't tell me you haven't thought about it."
"What can I say, I have a weakness for people that can lift me over their heads." He murmured back, his lips moving against your neck as his deep voice reverberated through you. He dropped his rifle and wound his arms around your waist.
Before he could get a grip on you, you stepped back, aimed your rifle at his chest and fired. His vest lit up red, the lights flickering to show he had been killed, and you were victorious. You couldn't help the smug smile that formed on your face as the look of shock and subsequent rage laced Bucky's features.
You turned, and before strutting away, you called over your shoulder. "At least ask me out first, and to think I thought you were a gentleman!” You paused for emphasis, turning slightly in his direction to gauge his reaction, “I've recently acquired a new mode of transport though, so I can come pick you up." And with a joyful laugh and a wink in his direction, you went to join the rest of your team, swinging your rifle over your shoulder. Boy did victory feel good. Nearly as good as Bucky pressed up against you, but that was for another time.
Summary: When Bucky is forced to do something he despises, Sam comes to the rescue.
Warnings: Swearing
A/N: Hey! This is my oneshot for @itsbuckysworld‘s Summer Writing Challenge. The scenario prompt is “we’re the only ones reading at this beach party and it’s the same book”. Kinda strayed away from the prompt a little. Anyway, thank you for all the love, hope you enjoy :)
Bucky sighed as he threw the pristine invitation on his bed, regretting his decision of attending Tony’s lavish parties. The array of different coloured drinks, extra formal attire and overcrowded gatherings didn’t look too appealing for his tastes. Nevertheless, Tony promised his eager guests that all the Avengers will be present, so the matter was out of his hands.
“Barnes, you ready?” A voice called out.
Bucky stole a glance at his reflection, smoothening down the collar of his light blue button-up before stuffing a small item into his pocket. He swung open the door only to be met with a very smug-looking Sam Wilson leaning against the wall.
“Lookin’ good there, Barnes. That shirt really brings out the blue in your eyes,” Sam whistled, nudging Bucky’s side, “Y’know, maybe it’s time to use my thoughtful gift. Who knows, you might even get a girl tonight,”
“I threw that thing the moment I unwrapped it,” Bucky shrugged as Sam squinted his eyes.
“Sure, I believe you,” Sam shot him a look before walking towards a large group, announcing his presence with a loud greeting. Bucky shook his head, amused at how quickly Sam joined their conversation with a drink already in his hand.
Instinctively avoiding the crowd, Bucky walked to the most secluded area he could find, a relaxed sigh escaped his lips as he sat on the beach chair. The cool sea breeze providing him peace and serenity unlike the cacophony of mindless chatter around him. He leaned back, subconsciously observing and profiling the guests at the party. Furrowing his eyebrows, he pulled out a colourful book from his pocket.
Socialising: What You Should Do Instead of Staring at People and Making Them Uncomfortable Written by The Coolest and Most Handsome Avenger.
Bucky scoffed at the title. I don’t make people uncomfortable. Right? Feeling like he was being watched, he lifted his head to meet a pair of eyes across the room. The woman instantly turned away, but Bucky caught the alarmed expression in her features. Right?
Despite having already flicked through the book over a hundred times in the past few months, Bucky swiftly skimmed through the pages, scanning over the words one last time before making his way to the bar.
Step 1: Finding Confidence
I knew you didn’t throw it! Alright, lemme tell you how to charm and please your way through the crowd. For starters, lose the scary face. It’s not pretty. No one’s pumped to approach you if you look like you’re about to murder them. Just chillax, my man. Square your shoulders. Lift your head up high. Look like the most confident person in the room and smile.
Bucky took a large swing of his drink, turning around to face the same woman from earlier. Opting to take the leap of faith, Bucky shot her a grin. This can’t be hard, I’m only smiling. She raised an eyebrow at the sudden change of his demeanour yet returned a soft smile.
Step 2: Compliments
Okay, this might be a new word for you. It means saying something nice about someone. It’s probably a huge step for your grandpa ass, might wanna sit down and take a breath. Lucky for you, this is easy. Just go for something casual and straightforward, don’t mess it up like you always do.
Casual and straightforward compliments. Say the first thing that comes to your mind.
“I like your eyes, they’re like the colour of over-chlorinated pool water,” Bucky blurted, internally cursing at himself when she shot him a questionable look. Over-chlorinated pool water? When have I ever fucking thought about that?
“Um... thanks,” She sipped on her drink, offering a tight-lipped smile.
This is going so well. Bucky cleared his throat, gently swirling the cold mug with his hand.
Step 3: Opinions
Ask for their opinions, shows you’re interested and you care about their feelings. Just don’t be random, it’ll throw people off. Your heart rate’s probably off the charts right now, so calm down, heart attacks are common amongst the elderly.
“So, how’s the party going?”
“It’s good, I’ve never really been to Mr Stark’s parties before, so it’s a little nerve-racking,” She let out a short laugh to which Bucky visibly relaxed, taking it as a sign that he wasn’t doing a terrible job.
“Yeah, I’m not much of a party guy myself. I’m just here to watch Sam get drunk and embarrass himself,” Bucky nodded to his friend who was standing on the coffee table attempting to lift Mjölnir.
The woman laughed at his joke, entertained by Sam’s struggling efforts. Way to go, Barnes. You’re nailing it! Make people uncomfortable. Ha, lies.
Step 4: Finding Common Ground
Let’s face it. You’re not the most interesting person to have a conversation with, so you gotta find some common interests. Keep them engaged, be the leader of the conversation.
“Would you like another drink?”
“I should go,”
The two of them spoke at the same time. Nodding, Bucky took a step back, allowing her to go past him, a sheepish smile on his face. As soon as her back was facing him, Bucky groaned to himself, tossing his head back as he leaned against the counter. He pulled out the book again, wondering how he messed up. Again.
“Hey, Buck!”
Recognising the voice, Bucky stuffed the book back into his pocket, “Y/N, didn’t know you were here,”
“Just thought I’d surprise you,” A smile tugged on your lips as Bucky chuckled, “I like your shirt, it suits you,”
Bucky ducked his head, a red tint forming on his cheeks. He could never get a hold of himself whenever you were around him. You knew precisely which buttons to press.
“There’s a lot of people, don’t you think? I didn’t know if you’d be here,” You looked around the room, Bucky took the opportunity tor trail your form with his eyes.
“I’m glad you found me,” He grinned, moving closer. The instant hit of his cologne almost made you fall into him had he not held your arm in support. Bucky took another long swing of his drink, emptying the glass mug in seconds.
“Slow down there grandpa, you might get a heart attack if you keep up the pace, they are very common amongst the elderly,” You smirked at his confused expression.
“What?”
“What, what?” You giggled as he ran his hands down his face.
“How did you know?” He mumbled, keeping his head down.
“Well, I got my own limited edition copy from The Coolest and Most Handsome Avenger himself. He also may or may not have told me,” You pulled out the book from your pocket.
“Someone call me?” Sam appeared between the two of you, an arm around both your shoulders, “Would you look at that? My plan worked! Guess I deserve another drink for the months of hard work,” He patted Bucky’s shoulder before stumbling off to the bar.
“He gave it to me as a birthday present, said getting laid would be the solution to my problems,” Bucky rolled his eyes, a laugh escaping his lips.
I made a moodboard for @itsbuckysworld Summer Writing Challenge 2019! My prompt was
“I’m a camp counselor and you’re a mermaid that lives in the lake, please stop scaring the kids” and I chose Peter Parker x Reader cause of that Tom Holland photoshoot.
Also I know it’s a summer challenge but for some reason I don’t relate lakes or camps to summer and it’s probably because I never been to one and it kind of turned out very wintery and somber, anyway, I hope all of you like it ☺️
Here it is! As talked about a while back, before I did the spring writing event, I had talked about doing another challenge, just because, and thought of waiting for the summer for it so it had some sort of theme or rhyme or reason.

And I am posting this from my sideblog, hope that doesn’t bother you too much (main is @rumpelstilskinxoxo) Thank you so much for hosting and for allowing me to participate!!! 💕💕💕
Summary: My prompt was “almost knocked you out with a golf ball at the course, i’m so bad, please teach me?” I didn’t manage to use the exact wording, but rather the idea behind it.
Pairing: Bucky x Steve, Bucky x Sam (friendship)
Words: apparently exactly 1000
Warnings: I guess swearing. Bad golf maybe? Sassy Sam? Oh and this is my first ever fanfic, probably a warning in itself.
„Will you please stop moping, I promise it’s going to be fun! It’s light exercise, fresh air, the opportunity for maybe a new hobby. This is going to be good for you! And for me, because you are being a pain in the ass right now.“
Bucky grumbled to himself but followed Sam onto the driving range.
Sam, in his element, waved to some people and greeted some others before stopping at an empty spot, dropping the bucket with golf balls.
„Alrighty, let’s see what we’re working with. Take this one“ - he handed Bucky a club who took it with an eye roll, bending his neck to either side and stepping onto the platform - „and just get into position. Nah not like this. Move your feet apart. Yeah. And keep your back straight. Okay, keep the club in one line with your arms, okay, no not like this, more relaxed, hm no let me…“ Sam moved Bucky’s hands and arms, demonstrated on another club on how to put his fingers.
„I thought in this game you are supposed to hit a ball? This is getting uncomfortable,“ Bucky mumbled but Sam just took a big step back.
„It’s a sport, sport. Now do a practice swing.“
„What?“
„A practice swing! You know, pretend there is a ball and how you’d hit it.“
„I’ll look like an idiot!“
„Like you need a golf club to do so.“ Bucky side eyed him. „Just humor me, will ya?“
„Fine.“ Bucky stretched his arms back and gave a few testy swings, then brought the club back way over his head and swung through, almost twirling and falling over. Sam snorted.
„This is exactly why you do a practice swing, so you don’t hurt someone! Or yourself. We are here so you can lightly exercise that arm of yours not almost sever it again, am I right?“
Bucky opened his mouth to retort something but got distracted focusing on something behind Sam. Sam was already in teaching mode again. „No need to go so high, okay, you’ll have enough momentum when you do it like - hey, Earth to Bucky, are you listening?“
Bucky shook his head and blinked a few times, focusing back on Sam. „Sure I am listening, take stick -“ „It’s called a club“ „- and hit the ball.“
„I am -„
„Just let me try it okay, I feel weird with the imaginary ball, okay? Please just -„
„Fine! Fine, here, put the ball on the T. There. But, not so violently high this time okay? Easy. Gentle. This is supposed to be light exercise, get your shoulder moving again, do you hear me?“
„Yeah, yeah, I hear you fine.“ Bucky got back into position, obediently following Sam’s comments on his posture, lifting his club up and then -
„WAY TOO MUCH FORCE BUCKY, JESUS!!! What did I tell you I -„
Bucky and Sam both followed the ball with their eyes, which he had hit way too hard, at a really odd and steep angle. They watched it go all the way up, up, up and then succumbing to gravity, falling back down again -
„CAREFUL!“
The person in direct line of flight of the ball looked up at the warning but it was too late, it landed directly on their shoulder before bouncing off and dropping to the floor, rolling away as if in shame.
Bucky ran up to the golfer who straightened up and pressed a hand to where the ball at hit, massaging the spot. „I am so so so sorry, oh god, are you hurt? Of course you are, you just got hit by my fucking golf ball, I am so fucking sorry! Like I just don’t know how that happened I am so -„
„It’s fine! It’s fine, don’t worry, not my first rodeo.“ The stranger smiled a warm smile that had Bucky’s stomach do a weird thing. „Just gonna be a small bruise, don’t worry. And when I started out, I actually managed to hit myself once with my golf ball, so there is that.“ The stranger chuckled, that smile still on their face.
„I’m Steve, by the way.“
The golfer, who just introduced himself as Steve, held out his hand. Bucky just stared at eyes too blue, too deep, too beautiful.
“His name’s Bucky, and I’m Sam, his not so successful golf coach,” chuckled Sam and shook Steve’s hand instead. Sam’s voice brought Bucky back to earth and he grinned sheepishly, reaching back to scratch his neck, almost hitting Sam with the club in his hand in the process.
“Dude! Watch it!”
“Well, it is very nice to meet you both”, Steve said while looking at Bucky. Sam couldn’t help his grin.
“This is Bucky’s first time playing golf, or trying to do so, can you believe it? But I think I have seen you here plenty of times, you are quite the pro, am I right - you know what, I’ll be right back.” Without further explanation but with an all knowing wink at Bucky, who in turn just glared at him, Sam disappeared in direction of the club house.
“Erm well. Yeah. Sorry again. So sorry. Ya know, about the - “ Bucky’s hand drew an upwards motion in the air that ended at Steve’s shoulder.
“Really, it’s fine. Maybe you should try again?”
“Don’t you think that is a bit of a health hazard for everyone?!”
Steve chuckled. “Well I could help you out until your -”
“Friend - oh god don’t tell him I said that!”
“- until your friend Sam comes back.” Steve shot Bucky another one of those smiles that made his stomach feel all funny.
Bucky gulped.
“I mean, if that’s alright? I don’t want to ruin your afternoon, I’m sure the one bruise is more than what you’d hoped to go home with today.”
“But maybe it does not have to stay the only thing I didn’t expect to take home today”, Steve said nonchalantly while picking up a golf ball and holding it out to a flabbergasted Bucky. “Shall we?”
