[ 狼 ] — People feared what they could not fathom, what they could not comprehend and such was the anxiety that arose upon hearing word of a predator hunting down their flocks. It was a mere rumour at first, some admitting that they'd heard the distant howls of a creature, others opting to remain silent about their encounters. How had word of it spread so fast as to make it to the palace? That was uncertain but the servants were indeed fueling the fire with their gossip, spreading it from place to place as they traversed the halls, like bees with flowers, dropping small and some-what incorrect facts where ever they went and that's how the tale of the ferocious beast emerged.
"I heard it's been prowling the forests at night, dragging off helpless lambs, someone even said they found one not far from the paddock with it's throat torn out!" One woman gasped, one hand covering her mouth and the other deftly folding a piece of cloth.
"That cannot be," Another added.
"But it's true! I heard it the other night, it was practically deafening but why would it comes out this far? Surely beasts like that only inhabit forests far from civilization, don't they?"
"Not anymore," The first sighed, adjusting the bundle in her arms-- It was only when she turned that she came face to face with the princess. "Oh! Your majesty, excuse our impertinence!" Hastily all of them ducked their heads, was it out of respect or obligation? Who knew.
