It was such a hard day for Atsushi today. He wasn't sure why but he supposed it had to do with being what Akutagawa said today.

The insults rang in his ears. Memories flooded his mind and he couldn't get it to shut up.

"You're useless and no one will want you."

"You should just crawl in a ditch and die."

'shut up, Shut up, Shut Up, SHUT UP!!!'

At least that's what he told his mind to do. As he just sat there on his futon.

.

You had heard from Dazai that Atsushi seemed pretty down today. It concerned you for many reasons so you went to his apartment to check in on him.

Knock

Knock

Knock

Atsushi then went and opened up the door, and upon seeing you he quickly tried to wipe the tears from his eyes.

"Oh...it's you, come in..."

Atsushi said as he stepped to the side to let you inside.

You asked him what was wrong and while it took a bit to get it out of him, he ended up telling you about the things Akutagawa said to him during battle. He also explained that while it doesn't affect him as much anymore, it still kind of stung a bit since it reminded him of the orphanage.

So you hugged him and said,

"It's ok for it to still hurt sometimes, as long as you know those things aren't true. You're not useless, and you have people who are glad to have you around."

It made Atsushi want to cry again. He appreciated those words more than he could say. It was touching and while he knew they were true, it still was nice to hear it. He wrapped his arms around your waist and held you close.

Later on you both were cuddling on his futon. He needed this right now and he was happy you were here. Sure the past still hurt, but he was moving past it. It would always remain with him, but now he had people with him who made it feel more bearable. He also had you, who didn't make it seem as though he was wrong to feel this way still, and that was the thing he appreciated the most.
