Avalanche

Anyil lay in wait. She knew Jackie was aiming for this spot; she could feel the anticipation of rest at last, the bone-deep weariness and paranoia that sparked through her system intermittently. There has to be an end, she thought, heart clenching. She couldn't keep up the farce on her end any longer; no matter what, after tonight, it would be done. Jackie entered, and Anyil tensed; as soon as she looked the other way, Anyil was out, a cry ripped from her throat as she sprang forward, trying to pin her.

Anyil had heard the whispers, of course; Security made a point of staying in the gossip vine, because there was plenty to learn to avert threats - or at least, fights and pranks - if you just sat patiently and listened. So she’d known for some time that the infamous Winter Soldier, who had (it was rumored) killed a thousand men in her time, had come willingly to SHIELD and surrendered to them. She also heard it said - though this was much less certain - that she was the same person as one Becky Barnes, who had fought alongside Captain America in the war. That second rumor, and the fact that both Captain Rodgers and Agent Romanov had been in and out of the building quite often the past week, made her believe the third she’d heard, announced only in the most hushed of tones - that SHIELD had recruited the infamous woman to their own cause. Still, she hadn’t expected to ever encounter the Winter Soldier; she was only level 1, after all, and the Winter Soldier was a threat lightyears beyond what she was capable of handling before.

Thus, it was with great surprise that she walked into the gym to find a slight woman with a prosthetic arm working out against the sparring dummies. She stopped, arrested by the sight of her - and something else, beating in her chest. The other woman stopped and spun, looking suspiciously - and they both looked as if they’d been hit over the head as two TiMERs went off and started to beep, filling the silence with their noise. Anyil, feeling like she was walking in a dream, stepped forward and extended a hand. “Anyil Herron,” she said, in a voice that shook only a little. “A pleasure to meet you.”

Early snowfall

Anyil's eyes were hard as she stared down at Jackie - the Winter Soldier, gotta remember to call her that - and waited for her team to get in position. It had taken half an hour to find the city she was hiding in, but considerably longer to pinpoint where she was in the city. Still, the bond between them hadn't steered her false, nor had her intuition about the types of places Jackie would choose to hide in been wrong. The other two agents on the case were evacuating the rest of the motel, leaving Anyil to deal with Jackie - the Soldier, dammit! - alone. "Herron moving in," she whispered into the comm, and slammed off the vent cover, leaping down onto the hopefully unsuspecting woman below.

As she fell, she heard another noise - Gunfire! They weren't supposed to be back yet! - and found herself twisting into the path of the bullets, taking two in the back before landing awkwardly to the side of Jackie. She wined and tried to get up, the hail of bullets stopping as they realized a friendly was in the danger zone.

Favorite holiday? Why? Thanksgiving, because it's literally just about food, fun, and friendship. It's gathering with the people I love, eating good food, having a good time, and reminding each other to be thankful for each other, for all the good times and good things we have. Though if it's religious holidays, Beltane tops it. ^^

If you had an unlimited amount of money, what would be your first purchase? A home or plot of land for a home for my fiancee and I.

If you could make a film or write a book, what would it be about? It might be a bit cliche, but it'd be about mental illness, what it's like to live with it, and the long slow road out of it. I want people to actually understand that as much as they can, because so many people just have no frame of reference for it.

What would be your ultimate profession? College biology professor. 

Who is someone you always wanted to roleplay with? Hrm, toughie, 'cause most of those I want to rp with I do on a regular basis. I guess zzapzzap is one of the people I haven't payed much with who I'd like to play ore with, and I'd like to play more with shieldhumanresourcesdept again.

If you could achieve the superpowers, what would you want and why? Shapeshifting into anything - I could run like a cheetah and fly like a bird, explore the depths as only a fish could. It would be so amazing to experience the world with all the different things nature can do, to see and be so much more than simply human. Though if I had to pick only one form, it'd be a bird, 'cause I want to fly.

If you could create a character for Marvel or DC, what would they be like? I really don't have a good answer here, because I don't know who they already have. A queer POC might be nice for representation's sake.

What song do you think best describes you? Another toughie. Old Soul by Ellis, or No More Running by Ellis. She kinda fits a lot of my experiences. Or possibly Rootless by S.J. Tucker.

Would you rather give up your hearing or your sight? I think if I had to, my sight. There was a quote I once heard - Sight is what connects us to the world; hearing is what connects us to each other. I'd rather be able to talk, and listen to and play music, than be able to see.

If you could change one thing about yourself, what would you change? I would either give myself more willpower or more self-esteem.

If you had the option to erase something from your mind, whether it be a memory or a certain person, what would you erase? Nothing. Even the painful memories, even the memories I'm ashamed of, make me who I am, and I learn from them. If I forgot those things, I wouldn't be myself anymore.

"Fuck, that's good. Harder."

Anyil shook her head but complied. “There, your sleep number is even higher. Why you want to sleep on a god-damn pallet, I’ll never know,” she teased, making sure *her* side was still plenty soft.

Winter always passes

Anyil crept down the hallway, keeping her breathing and her footsteps soft, unobtrusive. You'd hardly be able to hear them over the scrabble of the rats in the walls, but she knew better than to hope for total surprise; she was, after all, tracking the famed Winter Soldier, and you simply didn't surprise an assassin and warrior of that skill. With those considerations, this mission was a bit different than most; capture was still preferred, of course, so there could be an interrogation and a proper trial, but a dead Soldier was better than another escape with more dead and maimed agents left in her wake.

She peeked through the doorway and caught a glimpse of her target. She lined up her shot very carefully, knowing she'd get only one chance for a clean one; she aimed for the shoulder, hoping to cause pain and disable the arm, so she could close and capture quickly. Killing might be her job, but she still hated it, and wanted to make this another capture, another blow for justice and not for murder in cold blood. She exhaled as she shot; unfortunately, the prosthetic covered more of the shoulder than she thought, and the bullet ricocheted harmlessly off. Knowing her cover was blown, Anyil called out, "Give it up, Soldier, and you'll have a fair trial, a chance to explain your actions! Just come quietly." Knowing the odds of that were slim indeed, she prepared for another shot - this one aimed at the Winter Soldier's head.

Anyil smiled a bit shakily. “Yeah, but if I didn’t you probably would’ve, and I’m taking that chance every time.” She stood, shakily, feeling her healing flow through her. “I am tougher than I look,” she added with an apology in her voice.
