• Íslenska sauðkindin • For those of you who have followed my blog over the years, it’s no secret that I have a love for the Icelandic sheep breed. Not just because it has my favorite wool for needlebinding, but because it is a magnificent animal from head to hoof. ^^ The breed was brought to Iceland by the settlers during the Viking Age, and are kept isolated with a national import ban – much like the Icelandic horse. They are characterized by their weather-hardiness, multiple births, large variety of colors, horned ewes and rams with especially beautiful curled horns. They are neither fed hormones nor antibiotics, and graze freely from spring, making their meat naturally spiced with herbs and berries come autumn. 🌿🫐 The wool is dual-coated, warm and light…and their short tails wag when you come to see them!
