Hallo I really like your comic. I am wondering though, is there going to be background parings- stuff or is it completely neutral with focus on peter?

Like Kragdu and the like? This comic’s mostly focused on Peter :) There are hints of old flames, angry exes and so on later on but nothing too shippy. I’ll occasionally draw pairing stuff on the side but for the most part its gonna focus on Peter and the Ravagers and how they get along (or don’t) :)

Hallo I find your blog very useful and I have a question. If I make a OC in the Harry Potter universe and make them a metamorphagus but limit it to only being able to change their face would that still be considered a Mary Sue thing?

I wish I could say the same, but actually…

Rape culture. It's a thing. Most people won't even notice what's wrong with this couple because that's what they've been taught makes romance. (This is incidentally why EL James wrote it, I believe; not because of some hidden agenda)

The fanfiction crowd. Not to dismiss fanfiction in general because it's a hugely important medium for writers and readers alike, but it is true that it comes with a severe lack of filter that means you can be exposed to a lot of crap. But as it turns out, some people like that 'crap'. This is far from the only successful bad fanfiction (and I'm not talking about trolls like My Immortal here either). And in this case we're talking about the Twilight fandom. I haven't read a lot of serious Twilight fanfics, but I can speculate as to their quality based on their source material. And it is (or was, when this was published) a huge fandom to boot.

The book was originally self-published. In most cases, this would doom it to at least being dismissed by publishers. But the aforementioned fanfiction crowd gave it some measure of success to get it picked up. Essentially, Fifty Shades bypassed the filters of the publishing process in the name of commercial success.

The novelty of a mainstream erotica novel. I don't know who made that genius decision, but you just need to look at the fact that the New Adult "genre" pretty much spawned in the wake of Fifty Shades (by which I mean it might have existed before but definitely gained most of its momentum then). I mean, people in general like porn (that's why we have an industry based around it, and that's why a lot of fanfiction is porn) so making it available and "tasteful" for the first time definitely opened some gates.

The BDSM angle. This ties into the previous point, really. It's essentially "baby's first erotica", but read by people who may actually have been in relationships before (sexual or not). But add the BDSM angle, and suddenly any oddity can be excused by "it's the way he is". Which is exactly what Ana and Grey do in the novel, so why wouldn't the readers do it too if they don't know any better?

And that's why it happened. At least according to me, who is completely outside the publishing industry and has only the faintest notions of marketing.

I have no idea! I’ll admit I’m really done with the series at the moment—I can only take so much of this crap. It’s a possibility in the future, but not in the near future, basically.
