Eeeee! I am so excited to have found a home for my poem, "Building Walls." "We Mark Your Memory" is the first international anthology on the indenture, published by the School of Advanced Study, University of London. This collection gathers writing from descendants of the indenture, from South Africa to Fiji, from Seychelles to the Caribbean, whose work grapple with the legacy of plantation servitude. My piece, "Building Walls," was written to honour my father and the lineage of broken masculinity that I come from: "the legacy of men / who were taught to swallow their tongues / scythe the language of love" (p. 118). #identure #servitude #slavery #forcedlabour #wemarkyourmemory #mauritius #plantationisland #legacy #history #masculinity #family #poem #poetry #poet #anthology #published #publication #performer #lamackerel #kamalamackerel #transmauritius #queerpoet #queerwriter #qtbipoc #qtpoc #femmemagic #blacktransfemme (at University of London)
