We have a lot of modern adaptations of Elizabeth... depicting the adventures of Elizabeth Bennet in the 21st century, like the Lizzie Bennet Diaries.
I don't think there are a lot of modern Jane Austen though. And you know, I always wondered. How would Jane behave, what would she believe, how political would she be in the 21st century?
Jane Austen was a Tory, so, conservative. But Jane Austen was also an individualist, a feminist. She was very clever, a keen observer, she hated injustice and valued education, manners and kindness more than birth and money.
In short, she was complicated, as are we all.
In our comic strip series, a 21st century Jane Austen appears to Elizabeth and comments the events of Pride and Prejudice.
We decided to do a thoroughly modern Austen, conscious of her success, and not modest about it, a Jane Austen who also realized that she had numerous biases from her 19th century upbringing and had decided to fight the patriarchy.
Is this change realistic?
I have no idea. :D :D
