Hey! I have a question concerning your post about cishetpeople saying that gender/sexuality are fluid! I identify as a cis lesbian and I really do believe that gender and sexuality are absolutely fluid. Is that hypocritical bc I am cis? Thanks! :D
Here are some good responses to this question from the discussion last night!
“All gender is fluid!” = “Everyone gets a little anxious sometimes!”
“sexuality is fluid” can often just be a result of/refer to bi/pan/poly erasure...
EVERYONE GETS GIRL CRUSHES
Cis people co-opting the gender struggle.
Just a phrase :/
It’s easy to say that gender and sexuality are fluid when they don’t define YOUR identity.
Another thing to consider when you say that gender is fluid: Is YOUR gender fluid? Do you feel like you have a fluid gender? And how, for you as a cis person, is that different from the fluidity of a genderfluid-identified trans person’s fluid gender?
If you feel they ARE the same, you should maybe reconsider your own cisness, or perhaps your understanding of what genderfluid people experience.
If you feel they AREN’T the same, then maybe consider the implications when you make a blanket statement like “gender is fluid!”
Ultimately, the debate here isn’t about whether or not gender and sexuality are fluid. The debate is about why it’s a different and more uncomfortable context when those claims come out of a cis or straight person’s mouth.
