egoistic
@idtali, 99 Ent. building
Mijung was nervous as she walked to the practice room she reserved. She didn’t know why. Really, she shouldn’t have been. The showcase performance was like dozens she’d done before. But, it wasn’t. It was bigger than that, more important. In Mijung’s head at least. She gotten it in her mind that this performance was critical to a potential 2019 debut. She desperately wanted, needed to debut this year. A picture perfect performance would send the message to 99 Entertainment executives that she had not just the talent but the charisma worthy of being in their next group to debut.
The rumor had been, for a while now, that 99 planned to debut a coed group this year. Mijung took this into consideration when choosing her song. She’d initially considered the uber popular Love Scenario, maybe even work with Iseul now that she wasn’t quite as mad with him. But the song didn’t fit. It didn’t give her much room to demonstrate her skills at dance. It certainly wasn’t provocative, like she assumed a coed group was meant to be, either. Mijung needed something more... Well, just more. More dynamic, more striking, more engaging. More. She spent a lot of time — maybe too much — considering other 99 ent. releases before finally settling on Egoistic by Heaven. It was everything she needed: sexy, forceful, almost demanding of attention. With this song, Mijung could show that she wasn’t just some backup dancer. She had the makings of an idol.
In contrast to the song, it took Mijung hardly any time to decide which Heaven member to ask for help, guidance. Taehee had always been a supportive sunbae, the kind of person Mijung wanted to be someday. Kind and understanding, always willing to help. Taehee, Mijung thought, had been so gracious to give some of her time. Mijung didn’t want to disappoint her. She wanted to create a performance that would make Taehee proud just as much as it would prove that she was finally ready for a debut.
Maybe that was why she was so hesitant to open the door to the practice room when she got there. Why she had to pause for a moment to collect herself. It was silly. She was early, Taehee wasn’t even there yet. Mijung needed to calm down. She knew better than this. This was just a practice, not the real thing. She told herself that over and over again in her head. She could only improve from this. Eventually, Mijung talked herself down off the metaphorical ledge and entered the practice room. She put her things down and waited for Taehee to arrive.
