Romanceable Characters
Jay MacNevin (she/he/they)
The Baker
Jay is a soft-hearted soul who has always been more comfortable in the background than being the star of the show. For as long as you can remember, Jay has been there with a kind word and a plate of cookies to cheer you up when you needed it. They are much sturdier than they look from years of kneading dough and hefting trays of pastry as a baker. They will be there for you no matter what, but is it as a best friend or something else?
**Note Jay is the only gender selectable RO.
Elijah Zhang (he/him)
The Doctor
Elijah is the force behind the only medical clinic in town. His mixed Chinese and afro-Caribbean heritage have left him caught between two worlds. The clinic offers him a connection to the community and the people around him, something he will do everything in his power to protect. His large build and intense glare are offset by his calming voice and soothing aura. Elijah puts his patients first which doesn’t leave him much time for anything that isn’t about work.
Martinique (she/her)
The Performer
Martinique learned from an early age that the only person you can ever truly depend on is yourself. Her rough childhood helped her quickly learn how to wear a mask and be whoever she needs to be at any given moment. Her talent for singing and knowledge of local medicines have put food on her table for a while, but the real money came from charming tourists. Playing the part of a bar singer, mystic, and witch doctor have afforded her a decent living. When you cross paths, she insists that she has met you before in a vision, and you were destined to meet.
Steph Knight (she/they)
The Influencer
Steph’s life has been a whirlwind ever since she started posting videos about their life on social media. She is a window to her followers, offering a glimpse into the fantasy vacations they could never afford themselves. For Steph, traveling the world with friends has been a dream come true. Staying at a beach house in Ke’Bara is just another adventure destination, an opportunity to be immersed in the culture of the island from the perspective of locals. People tend to be drawn to her bubbly and optimistic nature, which sometimes leaves her biting off more than she can chew.
Lou (he/him)
The Gardener
Lou is supposedly the gardener for your family estate on Ke’Bara. Which is why it’s so baffling when you come across him folding laundry, dusting furniture and washing dishes. He is a man of few words, and has a habit of silently appearing just when you need him. Lou would rather observe the action than take part, unless the family home (and by extension you) is threatened. He might be the key to learning the truth about your family, although he seems to hold just as many secrets as the house he serves.
And then I totally went into social media days and editing like the plan was and didn’t start writing the next chapter at all…
Well…about that…hehe! ;D
I really should do the editing, especially as I have the edits back from the previous chapter from the editor too, but I am WAY TOO excited for this chapters, guys! Like, foaming-at-the-mouth-to-write-it kind of excited!! It's one of the first scenes I came up with when I figured out what was going to be the story for the MC and villain in this book!
It’s a big chapter to write because there’s quite a major decision to be made that affects the entire scene—you get two different versions of the chapter depending on the choice you make in this dramatically awesome moment!
And then it varies again depending on romances, etc.
Ohhhh…it’s such a good one! I know you’re not supposed to have ‘candy bar’ scenes, but oh boy—this is definitely one of the many candy bar chapters in this book, lol! :D
So, I’m gonna keep writing, then after it’s done, I’ll stop and do some major editing sessions to catch up with all that!
I will have to pause and social media days next week, as I want to catch up on asks, messages, mails, etc, but there’s still no way I’m resisting the call of this chapter…it’s just too good! :D
Hope you all have the most amazing weekend! We’ll be offline as usual (and doing our best to keep ourselves and all the animals cool in the heatwave!), so I’ll update you all again next week! <3
I promised myself to never be vocal in this blog since I fear confrontation (woops), but it's just so disheartening seeing how many authors rightfully complain of people stealing their work and/or using AI for writing, but simultaneously seem to be perfectly fine with generating AI images to promote their interactive fiction or support and share any that do that. The concept is the same. It's still stealing others works. I understand the convenience and the joy from something that feels like a shiny toy, but YOU ARE A WRITER. You have the power to describe with your words anything that doesn't exist and portray any emotion you want the reader to feel with it. I promise you, you don't need it. You have all you need already to create something beautiful and meaningful. And if you really want some visuals, stock images exist. There are multiple free programs to edit those if you need something slightly more specific. The readers you want to keep are not going to stray away simply from a generic banner. Most Ifs I adore quite literally simply have the title in a free font.
If you use it for inspiration, CHECK ACTUAL PEOPLE'S WORKS. You are going to earn and learn much more from them. And you can actually thanks the person that's inspiring you! How great is that.
If you want to make your OCs, picrew is a GREAT alternative other than games with a character creator like the sims, baldur's gate, skyrim, most dragon age games, and many more. Just look into any rpg and find one you like. Some online ones are even free.
A message and suggestion for @fateunwritten-if and pretty much every interactive fiction writer out there.
I first want to say that I am so sorry you’re getting these awful asks and harassments. I’ve only recently learned that this isn’t anything new and so many IF authors have deleted their story and blog in the past all because of things like this. Just know that myself and others fully support you and your art.
Regarding the suggestion. If you start to get harassment in your asks you should IMMEDIATELY turn off asks. I know some writers may feel bad about doing that but your mental wellbeing is more important than questions. And if you want to turn asks back on or if you really don’t want to turn asks off then I highly, HIGHLY suggest turning off Anonymous asks. All you have to do is go on settings -> scroll down -> and switch off “allow anonymous asks”. This allows people to still send asks but there will no longer be anonymity. I can almost guarantee that this will prevent most of the harassment that writers are getting.
And for readers that think doing that will be “unfair” and “annoying”. You’re exactly the type of people that writers need to avoid and turn off asks for :)
After Septic Saints, who I considered a friend, deleted their blog and story. I would hate to see something like that happen again to another of my favorite writers. So please. Take my advice ❤️ and be safe.
is it okay to ask other creators (IF writers for the link)
Hi anon, thank you for your worries! <3
You can ask me again, my shadowban has been lifted rather quickly! But it also would be totally okay to ask others! Most IF writers I interact with regularly are also on the server (as I'm currently in the process of dm'ing/messaging them all to join - but I have to do it a little slower this time so I don't get shadowbanned once more lmao).
Anyway,
DM me if you're an IF writer and want to join a cool server full of other IF writers.
