Kharchi Puja 1 Kharchi Puja is a local annual hindu festival held at through out Tripura, a well known north-eastern state of India. . Kharchi puja is performed after 15 days of Ambu bachi. According to Tripuri (the native inhabitants og the state) legends, `Ambu bachi is the menstruation of the goddess mother earth and the soil is neither ploughed nor dug anywhere during this time. Among Tripuri people menstruation is considered unclean and all significant functions by women are prohibited. The Earth is therefore considered unclean after the menstruation of Goddes mother earth during Ambu buchi. The Kharchi puja is performed to wash out the post-menstrual uncleanliness of the earth mother's menstruation. . . Its usually called the paradise for portraits for photographers as people from every part of society and corners come along in the carnival and fair held.
