it's unusual for anyone to turn up at the compound these days, especially unannounced. most of the scientists and doctors tony employed originally don’t actually do much work on base anymore, not if they’re not needed. not while tony is still working to rebuild the team. and with a lack of avengers (tony, rhodey, vision) the number of people living here has dropped drastically. but tony spends more time here than at the tower these days, and so he’s still in his workshop when FRIDAY tells him of the teenager on his metaphorical doorstep (otherwise known as the visitor entrance.)

tony sighs, tells FRIDAY to let vision know that he’s handling it, and after a moment of consideration, he puts on one of the iron man gauntlets. he’s allowed to be a little paranoid, he thinks.

so he opens the door and finds a blonde teenager staring at him. she looks about seventeen or so, setting off alarm bells in his mind (because what other reason does a teenager have to be turning up on his doorstep?). that’s exactly what he needs right now, his life becoming more like a tv drama.
