Could you tell us something about how the world of PRIORY, mostly Inys, is treating illegitimate children? I remembered that Igrain Crest was very... hostile about Rosarian's case, but did it really matter since her daughter still was Berethnet, looked like one and had all the right genes?
You’re right that it shouldn’t matter, because each Berethnet queen is essentially a clone of her mother, but it is expected of them to conceive legitimate children, because the Knight of Fellowship preaches that adultery and sex outside companionship are sins. Since the Queen of Inys is the head of Virtudom, she is expected to follow the Six Virtues to the letter. Some queens have conceived illegitimate children, but it’s kept secret, as it would be considered hypocritical. After all, if the queen can’t follow the Six Virtues, why should anyone?
How illegitimate children are treated in Inys really depends on who’s interacting with them. An especially religious person (like Crest) might treat them with contempt, seeing them as the fruit of sin, but someone else might not. Among nobles, they’d usually be passed over in favour of a legitimate heir, out of respect for the Knight of Fellowship.
