There is no way to sugarcoat it: Data analysis is incredibly time hard. Maybe hard isn’t the right word -- data analysis is tedious. Today, I reviewed and analyzed old sales reports. The ultimate goal of my project was to compare and contrast old styles and colors to see what we should design moving forward. Using Google Sheets, I sorted the data. Over the course of two and a half hours, I figured out a few “Google Sheets hacks” (tips and tricks that’ll) make your Google Sheets experience easier.

1. Sorting data with lots of product number (particularly of merchandise) got annoying which were all similar, blurred together. If you type=(image(“Image URL”)) you can insert a photo.

2. Shift + F11 adds a new sheet.

3. IguanaMed sells to over twenty countries, so I found myself dealing with several currencies. If you click on the numbers tool, the drop down menu includes more currencies.

4. I had been using excel templates (meaning I would open things in Excel and then upload them to the google drive). Turns out Google Sheets has 300+ templates.

5. Using Google Polls, you can import a poll’s results into sheets for easy analysis.

Sharing is Caring

Scrubs tend to be seen as a very niche item- they only have one use to one particular field. As I mentioned earlier, you can get creative with scrubs. If you know anywhere ELSE that might want scrubs, let us know by emailing [email protected]

Iguana Med has given thousands of scrubs to worthy organizations. As the “Scrubanthropy” Intern, I help manage those donations. Years ago, IguanaMed identified five main avenues to give to: homelessness, education, arts, sports and medical. Scrubs, particularly scrub tops, are versatile garments: they can art smocks, items in a dress up trunk or soccer jerseys.  In the past, we contributed to the Chicago Public School System and various mission trips across the globe. This summer, I hope to find three or four more groups to outfit with IguanaMed Scrubs. Worthy candidates for donation can be big or small, can work in areas other than medicine and generally just want to do good.

Working in Scrubanthropy is very different from anything I have ever done before. In high school, I worked with a non- profit called “Color The World” that gave crayons to underprivileged kids in under served areas and raised money to create scholarships for those students. I worked in “Donation Affairs,” identifying potential organizations to give to. At Color the World, the process of finding charities was very different. Lots of organizations in the area had a need for school supplies, so our crayons were useful. Similarly,many high schools in the area had community service trips to underfunded schools in places such as India, Guatemala and Uganda. Big medical organizations that plan missions often do not think of scrubs- their volunteers are expected to provide their own materials. If you have friends organizing a medical mission, odds are we might be able to help them out in terms of scrubs. Have them email us and we’ll see if they are a good fit for our Scrubanthropy program.
