I don’t know if anyone ever did it (if so, please tell me!), but I thought it’d be fun to share a few changes (between 5 and 10) that occured between your first ideas for your WIP and what you have for it now, be it a finished piece or still in progress. I’ll go first :)
For PS:
- Carlo was bi, he’s now gay
- The GiuxRosaxMauraXNat quatuor was just Rosa and Giu
- Rosa was originally a straight cis woman
- Costanza and Giuliano used to have a fling
- Cat had a “friend” named Clelia
For Ijandia:
- Kaherdin and co used to be white
- Kaherdin was raised by an uncle and an aunt, instead of two aunts
- Garret had a dead fiancée
- Ness and Ailean ended up together
- Drinian died in the early chapters
I’ll tag @unfocused-overwriter @weaver-of-fantasies-and-fables @t-lane-writes @italiangothicwriteblr @athenixrose @theprissythumbelina @kittensartswriting @tylerpendragon and everyone else wanting to join :)
Any inspirations from real-life cultures and so in Ijandia?
Ooh, now I wonder about my worldbuilding:p
Ijandia is more inspired by the fantasy books I read as a kid (mainly the Ewilan series) than by any real cultures, or at least for now.
I keep it to European cultures for now, even if I’m trying to add Egyptian, Etruscan, Mayan...influences, but I still have a lot to learn and I’m always afraid of culture appropriation.
So far, the Archipel is a mix of the Roman Empire and the Egyptian Pharaos, Leharion and Ellerion are very France-England Middle Age (crap, now I want to add Italian influences...), the Travellers culture is influenced by Mongolian and Polynesian cultures...(I need Vikings, too :p)
So yeah. A bit of everything, and it’s still very messy for now!
Look at me answering stuff a month later! (Prompts are here) Thanks a bunch for the ask, I hope you like the result :)
Warning for ear piercing and mention of poison and stabbing.
Thyia lookedat Leucos with dubious eyes as he washed his hands with clear water thenalcohol, before dipping a needle in the alcohol and passing it in a flame.
“It won’thurt that much,” he assured her when he caught her stare.
“Do you pinkypromise?”
Leucos heldback a smile. “I do.”
“No,” Thyialeaned towards him, forcing him to meet her eye. “you have to hold my pinky. That’s the purpose of the pinky promise. Or else it has no meaning. Like drinkingin your guest’s cup to prove it’s not poisoned or hearing a person’s last wordsand watching them in the eye before having them executed.”
“That’s…an interestingcomparison…”
Thyia’sgaze remained unwavering. “So,” She held out her hand. “do you pinky promise?”
“Alright!”Leucos shrugged as he linked his finger with Thyia’s. “I promise.”
She smiledas she unlocked their hands, and he stole a quick kiss from her, nothing morethan a brush of their lips.
Still, there was a knot in Thyia’s stomach as she watched Leucos settling comfortablynext to her.
“I’ll be asquick as I can. A pinch, then it will be over.”
Thyiaswallowed. It was still time to refuse.
“Would ithelp if I held your hand?”
How long hadMorwenna been there, watching them? It didn’t matter, for there she was, her figurecontrasting with the bright sun outside as she stood in the doorframe.
“Yes, ifyou don’t mind.”
Thetrinkets hanging from the ceiling jingled as Morwenna walked under them, and Leucossmiled when she brushed her hand on his shoulders, then she was by Thyia’sside, her presence warm and comforting.
“Ready?”
Thyia noddedand squeezed Morwenna’s hand tight. She closed her eyes so she didn’t seeLeucos’s hand coming near her, even thought she felt his presence, and shethought of the waves caressing the sand shores instead of the needle piercingthrough her skin.
“There. Alldone.”
The wet ragon her sensitive skin made her shiver and groan.
Morwennapressed a kiss on her hand. “You were brave.”
“Wanna seehow it looks?” offered Leucos, who was finishing to wash his hands.
As Thyianodded, she felt the new weight of the earring on her lobe. It was pretty, shethought as she looked in the small mirror Leucos held up to her: a small goldenstud, from which hung three small gems, held by thin golden chains. Nothinglike the heavy and ornated ceremonial earrings she once wore during festivitieson the Archipelago. She rose her head, and the sunrays caught in the blue, pink, and purple gems. She couldn’t help a smile.
So, while you’re already thinking about it: some more background on the story you’re planning for November‘s NaNo? :)
*grins widely then runs around screaming* THANK YOU SO FREAKING MUCH, YOU WON’T REGRET ASKING!!
The working title is “Morwenna”
and follows a ship captain and her crew as she travels the seas in search of a gate to the world of the dead to lead her great-grandmother to rest.
I’ve been working on/thinking about it since 2012 (First time I watched Pirates of the Carribean) and it’s evolved a lot (especially plot-wise...).
It’s supposed to be part of the Ijandia Saga, and should be the third book of the Ancient Arc, or Queens’ Arc. But with time, I realized it could be a standalone since it’s set decades after the first two. So that’s what we’re going for.
I’m so freaking excited to go back into the Ijandia worldbuilding, because gosh did I miss fantasy while working on PS! And I already have fancasts :p
I need to work on a proper WiP page for it, but here is what I have so far:
Morwenna, captain of a yet-to-be-named ship, fearless and kind and determined to find entry into the world of the Dead even if she has to battle the Gods themselves to do so.
Leucos, retired thief now quarter master, a trickster but a reliable friend, wishes for a life of adventure before living his old days in peace amongst the treasures he stole.
Thyia, Navigator of the ship and not to be crossed, unless you want to end up stranded, she flees from her past hoping it will never find her.
That’s...already a lot?:p Anyway, they are my new children and I love them and I’ll torture them. Keep in mind a LOT of stuff will probably change as I outline and write, but that’s what I’m going for now.
