Lancelot stood under the trellis, its roses still sweet and fragrant this early autumn evening, as he stopped and stared at you. No, not stare, he told himself. Admire. For that was how he felt when he watched you from a distance. Dressed in white, pure as snow, pure as your heart, pure as the white roses that grew in this garden, Lancelot couldn’t help but stand in awe, enchanted by your beauty under the glow of the moonlight.

Though he must have sighed too loudly, as you soon suddenly looked up from the roses you were admiring and turned in his direction. With a smile the sun would be envious of, you lifted the hem of your skirts and hurried over to him.

Returning your smile, Lancelot held out his hand to you; slipping yours into his, he gently tugged you towards him before leaning in for a gentle kiss. His hands snaked around your waist, pulling your body tight against his, your body still warm despite the crisp, autumn air. 

“I missed you,” he whispered, before kissing you again, part of him happy to have found you out here allowing for a moment of privacy. 

“It was so loud and noisy in there. I just needed a moment. Of quiet. To breathe.” Your gaze, steady on Lancelot, sparkled with the love you had for him. “I’m glad you found me. I missed you, too.”

The air surrounding you swelled with the music coming from the ballroom. “One dance, and then we return?” he asked. As the King of Hearts, he knew his time away was limited before someone would come looking for him, interrupting this special moment.

“It would be my pleasure,” you replied, slipping your hand in his. He wrapped his arm around your waist, your head resting on his chest as he held you close to him, as your bodies swayed to the music. 

For that one song, you shared your moment under the stars. A moment of quiet. A moment to breathe. A moment to just be, just the two of you, alone under the stars surrounded by white roses.

Purposely slipping your shawl off your shoulder under the King's glare sends adrenaline running through you. You can feel him watching from across the ballroom, the weight of his gaze sends delighted shivers through your veins. Sensing him moving to you, you slip your shawl back in place and start to wander to another set of friends. The game of Cat and Mouse has begun.

“Alice, dance with me?" Sirius appears in front of you with a warm smile, offering his hand.

His crimson eyes gaze lovingly at you, continuing to ease some of the pain from your legs. By the time the dance ends, you are able to stand by his side normally.

"Come, we should say our goodbyes." Lance offers you his arm and you nod, tilting your head at his smirk.

"Now if you show your shoulders, everyone will know who you belong to."
