Dealing With Differences of Opinion on Rulings

In the case that one reaches different possible rulings given by the scholars, then it is said that then you have a choice, some say to take the easier choice as this agrees with the statement of the Exalted, {Allāh intends for you ease...} [2:185] وإذا اختلف عليه المفتون، فقيل يخيَّر، وقيل يأخذ بالأيسر؛ لأنه الموافق لقوله تعالى: {يُرِيدُ اللَّهُ بِكُمُ الْيُسْرَ وَلَا يُرِيدُ بِكُمُ الْعُسْرَ} [البقرة: 185]. Yet it has also been said that one should take the more strict of the choices because that would be safer as following the other rulings might leave you with doubt whether he has fulfilled that which was obligatory or not. As the Prophet ﷺ said: “The one who fears Allāh in regard to doubtful matters, he has protected and preserved his religion and his honor.” وقيل: يأخذ بالأشد؛ لأنه أحوط وغيره مشتبه، وقد قال النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم: "من اتقى الشبهات فقد استبرأ لدينه وعرضه". However, the preferred way in this situation is that you take that opinion that you believe in most likelihood is closest to what is correct. This is done by considering the one who informed you of it as being more knowledgeable and stronger in piety, and Allāh knows best. والأرجح أن يأخذ بما يغلب على ظنه أنه أقرب إلى الصواب لكون قائله أعلم وأورع، والله أعلم. Kita terlalu sibuk mencari perbedaan di antara kita, sehingga yang kita lakukan hanya berdebat kusir tanpa ujung.

Kenapa tak coba mencari hal-hal yang serupa di antara kita, yang ternyata lebih banyak dari perbedaan yang kita miliki? Atau bahkan, lebih jauh lagi, menganggap perbedaan yang ada di antara kita adalah sesuatu yang sah-sah saja, selagi tak menabrak hukum syara'? Kenapa kita tak bisa? Kenapa?

“And the reason for the unity of Ahl al-Ḥadīth was that they would take the religion from the Book and the Sunnah. Why The Heart Hurts

“We are not surprised by the differences between kings and heads of countries because they are people of the dunyā. إنَّنا لسنا نستغرب اختلاف الملوك والرؤساء لأنَّهم أصحاب دنيا،

Rather what hurts the heart is the ikhtilāf (differing) between callers to Allāh, they do what their enemies want from the splitting.” ولكن الذي يجرح القلب هو اختلاف الدعاة إلى الله، ويحقِّقون ما يريده أعداؤهم من الفرقة

How to Unite the Hearts

Al-Nu’man b. Bashir said: حَدَّثَنَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ، عَنْ زَكَرِيَّا بْنِ أَبِي زَائِدَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي الْقَاسِمِ الْجَدَلِيِّ، قَالَ سَمِعْتُ النُّعْمَانَ بْنَ بَشِيرٍ، يَقُولُ

The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ paid attention to the people and said three times; straighten your rows (in prayer); أَقْبَلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم عَلَى النَّاسِ بِوَجْهِهِ فَقَالَ ‏"‏ أَقِيمُوا صُفُوفَكُمْ ‏"‏ ‏.‏ ثَلاَثًا

By Allāh, you must straighten your rows, or Allāh will certainly put your faces in contrary directions. ‏"‏ وَاللَّهِ لَتُقِيمُنَّ صُفُوفَكُمْ أَوْ لَيُخَالِفَنَّ اللَّهُ بَيْنَ قُلُوبِكُمْ ‏"‏ ‏.‏

I then saw that every person stood in prayer keeping his shoulder close to that of the other, and his knee close to that of the other, and his ankle close to that of the other. قَالَ فَرَأَيْتُ الرَّجُلَ يُلْزِقُ مَنْكِبَهُ بِمَنْكِبِ صَاحِبِهِ وَرُكْبَتَهُ بِرُكْبَةِ صَاحِبِهِ وَكَعْبَهُ بِكَعْبِهِ ‏.‏

“In short; I appeal to the Muslims وخلاصة القول: إنني أهيب بالمسلمين

– And in particular to the Imāms of the Masājid – - وخاصة أئمة المساجد -

Who are ardent upon following him ﷺ الحريصين على اتباعه صلى الله عليه وسلم

And in order for the acquisition of the virtue of reviving his Sunnah ﷺ – واكتساب فضيلة إحياء سنته صلى الله عليه وسلم

That they implement this Sunnah and are ardent upon it and that they call the people to it. أن يعملوا بهذه السنة ويحرصوا عليها، ويدعوا الناس،

So that they can all unite upon that – altogether, إليها حتى يجتمعوا عليها جميعا.

And so with that; they will be saved from the threat of: ((Or Allāh will cause separation between your hearts.)).” وبذلك ينجون من تهديد " أو ليخالفن الله بين قلوبكم ".

What Can a Man See Before Marriage?

From what I understand there are two opinions on this issue:

1a) The more conservative view is that the only thing a man can see of a woman is the face and the hands. So if she normally wears niqab, she can appear before him in just hijab, while maintaining her abaya/jilbab, and of course, no jewelry or makeup.

1b) One variation on this view states that a man can see her without the hijab, wherein she takes it off so he can take a look then puts it back on. I've heard Muhammad Tim Humble talk about this in some of his marriage talks.

2) The second opinion states that a woman can appear before a potential suitor (the actual man himself) in a state of decent dress like she would be at home, within the realms of decency and in the presence of a mahrem. So this would mean with her exposed and in her normal dress that she would wear at home. This does not allow tight clothes, makeup or jewelry. This is the opinion on this IslamQA answer.
