Shaykh Sulaymān Ar-Ruhaylī حفظه الله made a nice point in his class today of how the statement of a companion is not a Hujjah (proof) in itself over the statement of another companion, even if he has more virtue than the other.

If this is for the Companions, then how much more so for other than them from the Scholars of the Dīn who have come after them. Yet, we find some using age, virtue, status as the deciding factor of what's correct when Scholars have differed instead of looking at the proofs.

Why Is There So Much Fitnah...

“The Sahābah (may Allāh be pleased with them) were the least (of the people who fell into) Fitan (trials and tribulations) compared to the rest of those who came after them. وَالصَّحَابَةُ - رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمْ - كَانُوا أَقَلَّ فِتَنًا مِنْ سَائِرِ مَنْ بَعْدِهِمْ،

Indeed, the more the era (of a people) was further away from the Prophethood, فَإِنَّهُ كُلَّمَا تَأَخَّرَ الْعَصْرُ عَنِ النُّبُوَّةِ

The more the separation and differing became abundant.” كَثُرَ التَّفَرُّقُ وَالْخِلَافُ.

He Said/ She Said/ They Said (But Who Asked Them?)

Them: Look, aren't they cute? They must be in love...or in denial, one. Because all this back and forth tension is palpable all the way over here. They should just get a room or something already...

Him: I love her, but it can only be platonic. I think her beauty is unparalleled, but it's a beauty I can never touch, never see unclothed, never taste, never feel beneath my hands. She is pure love and sweetness, and deserves to be loved by someone who can commit his whole life to her. If only we had met sooner, if things could be different--

Her: But we did not, and they are not...nor can they ever be. He has prior commitments, and I feel no resentment. Only love, deep but platonic. He is more beautiful than he knows, joy and light radiating from his very soul. He says he wants me always in his life, and I want him in mine. This arrangement makes us happy...no matter what anyone else may think
