QUESTION: Do we think when the ilken attacked the ship, they spoke mind-to-mind with everyone (or in a way that they didn't actually use their voices/mouths)? Or do we think that when they spoke, only Manon, Aelin, and Aedion could hear them?
Correct me if I'm wrong, but in EoS when the ilken attack the ship, this is the first (and only?) time they speak without quotation marks.
Here Maas has ilken speech text in italics and without quotes. The top pic is Manon's POV. The middle is Aedion's POV (which implies he heard what the ilken said). The bottom is Aelin's POV. Athough it's not 100% clear as to whether Aelin filled in what the motion meant for the reader, or if the ilken said "parley."
At every other point in the book, the ilken speak with actual voices/in quotes. So are they able to choose to speak mind-to-mind when they want? Or are they able to communicate with Manon, Aedion, and Aelin in a way in which the others can't hear? It would certainly explain why Aedion had a RANDOM, seemingly pointless super-short POV in that scene where all we get really is him telling us he knows what the ilken are called.
