Deft - "Illicit Fantasy"
As Red Bull and Scion before them, Skullcandy has joined the corporate fray by releasing a new limited series, "Supreme Sound", from different cities around the globe. Starting with Onra and Walter Mecca in Paris, the next edition features London producer Deft with a pair of productions that showcase his highly complex, micro-edited sound in really spectacular form. "Illicit Fantasy" injects jungle, juke, trap, and garage tropes in a dizzying flash of signifiers, but their melding together to form a richly melodic and intricately rhythmic whole really speak to the guy's talent. Just check the chord progressions, variety of synths and dynamics, and final percussive breakdown for the evidence: few are doing it like Deft.
